Wasn't that running on three top end PC cards? I doubt it will be cost effective to get that level even by 2013, would be great if it was possible though.

Then maybe MS and Sony should wait for it to be cost effective before releasing new consoles, I'm not paying £300 for a halfway house.

If the Xbox 360 didn't allow all Xbox Games to be "transferrable", then assuming the Xbox 720 will allow everything from the 360 seems like a bad idea. Them keeping everything tied to your account, but some of it not being "720 Compatible" seems like the safest, and least likely to disappoint, option.

You'll always have access to your content, just not necessarily on the NextBox. They already do this with Xbox Live games you purchase on your Windows Phone, or Games for Windows Live. They're all tied to your one Gamertag, just not necessarily available on every format your Gamertag can be used on.

I'm not sure this needs a separate topic so I'll ask here.
Will an official announcement by Microsoft of a new machine make you delay a purchase of the WiiU? I know they will be fairly different but money is tight at the moment and some may just want a single machine next generation.
In my case I think it would as while I'm intrigued by the new controller I'm more of a graphics whore at heart. I know it's shallow and rubbish but that's just who I am  .

No, because an Xbox will never have Zelda.

As long as Microsoft don't forget who put them where they are today, I'll be buying their next machine and only their next machine next gen.

I had both a PSP and DS along with my 360 this gen, but I won't be investing in a hand held again next time.

You could say the same about Nintendo and having a Halo game though. The question was mainly for those who are thinking of going single format.

Yeah, but Halo's not a good franchise ;)

If I were forced to only have one console, I might wait for an announcement, but the first party output on WiiU will most likely trounce Microsofts.

It depends on the price really Pete. If the WiiU is cheap (250 Euro max) then I'll probably get one as I see it as a console that my kids would also like to use.

I'd be very cautious about buying a launch console from either MS or Sony though. Their consoles are going to increase in complexity, price and power consumption which spells trouble to me, so I think I'd wait until they iron those wrinkles out and release more reliable and efficient iterations of the hardware.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

I'm going to wait at least a year after launch to see how Microsoft support it.

If it's just going to be more HalozFableGearsofForza then they can strawberry float off.

Knowing Microsoft they'll scale up first party wise and form a load of partnerships as they enter the next gen, just like they did this gen.

If they design it with the same sort of philosophy the used with the 360, I'd get one. At the time, the hardware in the 360 was pretty state of the art. A triple core CPU coupled with a high-end (for the time) graphics card. Its hardware beat most PCs back then.

Not worried about reliability, I'm sure MS would have learnt its lessons from the 360 debacle and I fully expect the new console to be very reliable. Plus manufacturing processes have improved since 2005, which'll mean more complex chips that are smaller, will require less power and generate less heat.

I would say that this is all the usual hype from blogs. However we know MS wants to be on the market before Sony. And this article... "Xbox 360 Life Cycle 'About Halfway Through' says Microsoft Executive" sounds like a Microsoft reaction to the discussion to kill talk of a new console. Maybe next year we will get a reveal and the megaton 'Out this Fall!"

MS and Sony could hold off for another year if they wanted, to get their games and hardware in order. The WiiU doesn't really pose that much of a thread to them at the moment, it will take Nintendo at least a year after release to win back some of the 'hardcore' gamers.

And for that I am thankful.
