It just annoys me when games essentially throw away all your progress from the first. If it was just a case of a different ending path then fair enough, but to say that 80% of your playthrough never actually happened because the game actually stops before you get that far....that's just annoying.

Still, bought for £27 from cdkeys.

You don't find it a refreshing take on the fact it's a video game so losing is very possible and real aspect of if, instead of the standard "sequel but you lose all your cool gooseberry fool"?

Earth has changed. Twenty years have passed since world leaders offered an unconditional surrender to alien forces. XCOM, the planet’s last line of defense, was left decimated and scattered. Now, in XCOM 2, the aliens rule Earth, building shining cities that promise a brilliant future for humanity on the surface, while concealing a sinister agenda and eliminating all who dissent from their new order.

Uhhh.....but I won at the end of Xcom? That's a pretty big strawberry floating event to happen between games isn't it? Does the game even give you any detail filling in what the hell happened between the two games to explain such a massive change?

XCOM Ending spoilers

At the end of the first game you 'win' and get a congratulatory message from the XCOM council leader but there is one of the psychic aliens stood in the background clearly controlling him

Is there no Ironman mode in this? Can't see it in the settings weirdly.

EDIT - Ah, you have to disable the tutorial.

First mission after the tutorial-Mind controlling enemies who can make zombies.

That's a harsh learning curve. Feels good to have more Xcom though those accuracy percentages seem more off than ever.

The first two missions of the tutorial contain plot not in the rest of the game so it's worth doing them (the initial tutorial especially)

There's a dodge mechanic which means that the enemies can reduce damage done

They dodged a 100% shot I had :dread:

Grazes :dread: I've already lost a guy because of enemy MECs not dying when they're supposed to.

Codexes are fun too. They can make clones of themselves and create massive areas which take away all your ammo and explode.

Managed a couple of missions before the game randomly quit to desktop.

I wish they'd changed the controls so you could left click to move, I find right clicking difficult if I have to repeatedly do it.

Can you not change it in key bindings?

Just had a fun mission where I hacked a gun turret and used it to murder a MEC trooper, an advent officer and another gun turret.

You can literally rebind any key other than that.

Anyone else finding the cutscenes really choppy?

It's noticeably harder than Enemy Unknown. Half my roster was gravely wounded and out of action for like 15 days each by mission 3. Had to buy in a load of rookies.

I'd say it's harder but also fairer

You have a lot more options from a really early point so you don't get the EU difficulty curve where it's hard until you get new gear and then easy until you get new enemies and then hard (and then buy mid to late game it's very easy)

Stuff like non-lethal grenades are a lot more useful, flashbangs block all enemy abilities and break stuff like mind control or the psi zombie and decoys/mimic beacons are now really strong.
Flipside is that some of the returning enemies are much scarier chrysalids :dread: :dread: :dread: and the new ones are better designed. You don't get stuff now where an enemy won't use their explosives at all unless you play on classic

The alien designs are strawberry floating terrifying in this, the new sectoids are utterly horrific.

Not been getting any of these performance problems thankfully. Everything runs fine on high, and no crashes after nearly 3 hours.

A few problems from XCOM carry over though. Like moving a unit to a good vantage point only to find out he can't see a single enemy. Drives me strawberry floating insane. And the camera picking an angle inside a building or through a roof to show you the action.

Also, I just carried a downed solider to a glowing blue extraction square, then extracted the unit carrying her. Yet on the mission results screen it said she died. What happened there?
