Copied here from my post yesterday; the limited edition version has since increased to £89.85 at ShopTo. That version does look neat but, in my view, not worth paying an extra circa forty-odd quid for. The standard version from ShopTo now comes with a key ring and a poster. The standard version has dropped to £49.99 at GAME.

Got an order in through ShopTo for the base edition, can’t wait to play this again. Only played the 3DS version which while very good did get a bit hectic on screen at times, should look lovely in HD as well :datass:

It's awesome. I finished it years ago on the Wii. It blew me away at the time.

Dunban 4 lyfe.

Big fan of XC2, so looking forward to this, having never played the original.

How does the combat compare to 2? I’m assuming 2 expanded on the foundations of 1?

I found that 2 expanded a lot on the combat of 1 so 1 will seem simpler in comparison when playing it after 2.

In some ways I preferred the combat in XC 1, 2’s took a while to click with me.

Really looking forward to finally playing a Xenoblade game.

I've had this on my must play list ever since it was released and kept missing chances to try it. This remaster means no more excuses for me now >,> I played and loved XC2 tho and I know that game has mixed feelings amongst fans but I thought it was incredible.

Yeah, it's going to be a lot more basic. The Topple/Break mechanic originated from this. There's a future sight mechanic (I forget what it's actually called) but that only really helps in near death scenarios from what I can remember.

The combat in 1 has me most interested. Seen a lot of folks go out of their way of putting down the combat of 2 so I can't wait to actually experience it for myself. 2 has a lot of systems going on but once it clicks, good lord it becomes addicting.

Also worth mentioning I still haven't got around to Torna yet ">,> I really need to play and finish that before XCR.

That was my issue with 2’s battle mechanics, you had so much going on to start with in the battles once you have all the mechanics available to you that it really is a matter of waiting for it all to click before it becomes fantastic. For me it didn’t click for a good while...

Wasn't till around chapter 4 where I was able to connect the dots more. It's all about finding a team composition that fits you. Something I actually loved about the game, because everyone was so different.

I was 30 hours into the game before I even understood the chain attack/combo system. XC2 did a really poor job of telling you that stuff, in terms of pacing information on game mechanics, and explaining it in a clear manner.

Still loved the game despite that.

On one hand 30 hours feels like a lot of time but on the other hand, that’s not even out of the first third of the game...

I didn’t get it until I watched some online tutorials. It’s definitely a shortcoming of the game but then XC2 is one of those flawed masterpieces in my opinion. When it’s good it’s really, really good though.

The boxart at Base is different to the one shown at Shopto. Are there different versions of the base game?

I think it finally clicked with me around chapter 6? Some snow covered landscape.

I doubt the base game will be different, unless they have unannounced exclusives like keychains, posters etc but I don’t see how that would mean a different box art?

The 3DS version of the game wrote:Earn in game tokens in Xenoblade Chronicles 3D by tapping a Shulk amiibo figure to the New Nintendo 3DS XL . Tokens can be used to unlock music and animated 3D models of various characters.

It seems that the Switch version won't have this amiibo functionality. I guess it's only a small point, but it's frustrating when it's the "definitive" version and a bit odd when the Switch features NFC capability. It feels like Nintendo is actively trying to minimise the use of amiibo figures on the Switch.

I never got on with the combat in 2 but then again I'd call XC1 the best JRPG ever made. The story, sidequests, characters, streamlining and elimination of archaic JRPG mechanics and setting are all second to none. There's even an animal crossing-style huge sidequest where you have to rebuild one of the shattered human colonies. XC2 felt like a step backwards for me. The combat was overly complicated, the treatment of female characters rather laughable and immature and it put back some of the archaic mechanics XC1 got rid of, like not having to backtrack to finish off fetch quests.
