Tension basically just means morale in battle. It can go up via various arts and good timing on button bursts and it can drop from buffs being placed on the characters or from a member of your team dying. There's also ways of increasing it before battle via gear. The character portraits tell you how high tension is, basically the more they're yelling the higher the tension.

I’ve largely ignored the affinity system as I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing with it  same with the skill trees, I’m linking abilities of characters together when I see a space appear but not sure if that has a knock on effect to the affinity status? Missing out on Heart to Hearts tho as they all require higher affinity that what my crew have.

RE: Chain attacks, yeah, I’ve noticed they happen more often as I’ve got later in the game but couldn’t work out what the actual trigger point was.

Skill trees look complicated but are basically perks so easiest way to manage it when deciding between 2 is read the description and see which one you'd prefer. Also, if a column is full on a characters tree make sure you switch to another so they can start filling it out.

I think the best way to improve affinity between characters is to do side quests, and changing who your leader is to spread the affinity (as the leader benefits most).

Wasn't there some kind of present giving mechanic in this as well that fed into affinity? Never bothered with giving anyone a nice present myself - lumps of coal all round!

As a result of this I think I saw about 2 heart to hearts in the whole game because nobody trusted anyone else enough to talk to each other! :slol:

I gave someone a gift once and they hated it apparently so never tried it again

I just took the easy option and watched the heart to hearts on YouTube  Never got the hang of the affinity system.

Just finished Chapter 9

What with the giant, Alvis and his shenanigans and the return of Fiora, I have no idea where the story is going now, or even who is good and who is bad

Great stuff

Yeah, I’m really keen to find out what Alvis is up to, not sure what their goal is right now.

I’m just at the start of Chapter 14 now, guessing I don’t have too much left now.

Part way through Chapter 14 now, I have to say that the Inside Mechonis area is probably the worst area in the game so far. It’s very dull and is the first time in the game that I’ve felt they are padding out the game for the sake of making it last a bit longer. Bit of a shame as all the areas previously to this have all been interesting and had a great look to them, hopefully after I get out of this section the next area is more like the ones prior

I love that area. The track for it is great too.

To warn you: you're there for a long time. At least the music is good.

Yeah the soundtrack has been great throughout the game, one that I would like to listen to whilst out for a walk or working (shame Nintendo don’t like to release soundtracks  )

I did manage to buy the Xenoblade 2 soundtrack (even better IMO) somehow.

I'm just about to set off for the Eryth Sea, but I thought I'd pop back and clean up some Colony 6 stuff.

I knew I shouldn't have sold all that monster drop shite. :fp:

I don’t think I sold any of the various drops from monsters and the over-world and I still didn’t have anywhere near enough to get close to finishing Colony 6 off.

I’ve not ventured back to Colony 6, is there anything worth while or is it purely fetch quest stuff?

Purely fetch quest stuff. Maybe the worst thing in all three games? (Not willing to say it's worse than everything in X, that game had some serious problems.)

It has some weapons and arts/skill trees tied to it though, doesn't it?
