Just did this last night; in total agreement! Some of my suspicions were confirmed, but it's opened up more questions! Will be heading to Valek Mountain tonight.

Out of interest, what level are you at? I'm 45 at mo.

Yeah the story properly gets going at Prison Island, cutscenes are especially great as well!

For my main party, Shulk is just 49, Reyn and Sharla a little behind on 48. Not sure on the inactive ones, they tend to keep up quite well so I’m guessing 47/48? Once I’ve got Sharla to max affinity with Shulk and Reyn I’ll be switching to Melia in her place, don’t think it'll be long before I can switch.

Things have started to pick up much more for me now

Just finished off chapter 5 with the sequence through the mines under Colony 6, really enjoyed that. The boss Xord sounds like he's a reject from Eastenders of something!

The english voice cast is great for the most part. Dunban and Sharla knock it out of the park. Tho there are def some awkward pacing and timing in a lot of cutscenes throughout the game. But that's more on trying to follow the Japanese voice tracks as guidelines. This is why it was pretty disappointing that the Heart to Hearts aren't voiced, because the actors get a lot more freedom to work there. It's where XC2 really shined with bringing more out of those characters.

Gotta be honest, the voice acting in XC2 was more of a miss for me (although I love Nia and Morag). It's better than X's though.

I adore most of the voice acting in this game. Metal Face and Dunban are my favourites. That epic cutscene in Valak Mountain :datass: :datass: :datass:

Actually was listening to XC2's soundtrack this morning. strawberry floating amazing.

I loved the variety of XC2, it made the characters more endearing. Plus you got to just hear them more in general compared to XC. I do wish Pyra/Mytha didn't have the american accent tho. Her VA Skye Bennet is british and would have preferred they kept it like that (her playthrough of the game is well worth watching too).

For XC I thought Reyn had great moments for the most part, but his deliveries didn't always hit as earnest as I'd expect. He shines best when he's bouncing interactions off other party members. My favourite cutscenes are when he's getting messed with by Sharla. Those two had great chemistry and the dynamic worked really well. My take on Melia might be controversial but I just wasn't feeling her for most of the game until late story. Her stiff nature doesn't always come off that well. Riki is uh... Riki I suppose lol, just gonna leave that there ">,>

Started making my way through Sword Valley before I had to leave it for the night, reckon I’ll be finishing this off before I start/return to anything else substantial.

I'm at the point of no return now, so I saved and turned it off. It's nearly over :(

Made it to the Satorl Marsh now, initial thoughts were: "great another bland looking area!" but then it turned to night and my spirits were lifted considerably! :datass:

It's definitely an enjoyable romp overall now but I'm just not "feeling it" in the same way that I did with XC2 which is a shame.

Finished the first.run through last night. Going to do Future Connected before finishing the last couple of side quests and maybe starting new game plus if I don't get hooked by Pokémon again.

Still prefer XC2 overall but it's been so enjoyable revisiting these.locations and characters.

75 hours, and I'm not far off hitting level 80.

Ok, I'm in Galahad Fortress at the moment after about 40 hours and around lv 54. Probably got about 40% left to go then.

I feel like I'm over-levelled to an extent in this. Despite not doing any grinding at all (other than the fact I've been doing most of the side quests) I seem to be a good 5 levels above anything that I encounter when I'm following the main story path. It's not really a problem but does mean that things generally feel very comfortable in battles, other than being ambushed by level 80+ monsters I don't think I've died yet.

Need to take some time out to dig into more of the systems at play as well - I've not really scratched beneath the surface yet on things like skills, arts, gems etc.

Really like that they have visual changes for equipment in this, it's nice that sticking a different set of armour on a character actually gives them a different appearance. At the same time I like that they allow you to over-ride this with an appearance control as some of the looks you get are a bit troubling. As much as I want the improved stats that come with some of the gear I've found for Sharla I'd rather she didn't have to look like some kind of futuristic streetwalker to get them!

Some of the visual differences of armour sets between characters is just embarrassing. Put a top on shulk and it's some bulky thing, put the same thing on sharla and it's rack city Arizona and there may as well be cum stains on it

Got this for my birthday, so I put a couple of hours in last night. It looks bloody lovely! Light-years away from the blurry, jaggy mess on the Wii.

I love that they've put a glamour system into this version. Too often the best gear for where you're up to is ugly as sin.

Wrapped up the game the other night at around 90 hours with my party all at level 80. I don't think I've been this conflicted over a game in recent times. XC is still overall a phenomenal experience, but personally let down from weak character and story moments I felt just didn't quite hit the mark at times. Where this game shines for me is with it's Worlds, Music and combat (even tho its starts getting pretty repetitive but never boring). The consistency and quality of all it's locations have all been mindblowing.

There's a lot I wanna say but will refrain from blabbering on too much since I know I'm in the minority with a lot of my feelings towards it's Story and Characters. I was thoroughly engaged from start to finish, but a lot of these characters just didn't really resonate with me much which in turn created a lack of attachment overall. The narrative is super focused, with little to no deviation, which means the cast doesn't really get time to "breath" as often. The way the Heart to Hearts were handled in this really bugged me and was probably a big reason why I didn't end up as attached to the cast as much as I could of. So I guess that's more of a problem on myself than the game.

That all being said, XC is a game I would recommend everyone play. I also genuinely think this is a perfect first experience for folks new to JRPGs too. It has a taste of everything you can expect for this crazy genre.

Now onto Future Connected which I put in around an hour and a half last night. I'm already liking Melia a lot more than I did the main game and her VA has become more mature which I think suits the character more. Kino and Nene are already infinitely more interesting than their father ever was in the short span I played compared to the entire story of XC lol.
ALso, Quiet Moments are what the heart to hearts should have been like in the main game, good lord. FC almost feels like XC2 with some of its elements. I know it's not that long which is disappointing.
