Beat Egil last night - some epic cutscenes! Should be finished in the next night or two unless it takes a while leveling up. I'm 69 at mo.

Just got a white screen of death whilst playing this.
Watching the cutscene where the emperor first first to the top of prison island and reveals the creature that is locked away there, then he uses his staff to do something and the screen just goes white. Audio carries on for about 30 seconds where the scene is presumably playing out but then it just stops and nothing else happens! :x

Another good thing about the dlc is how many fast travel spots there are in compared to some areas of the main game, they could have added loads more in this re-release actually.

Can't get past this white screen of death now. 40 hours of gameplay might be up the strawberry floating swanky here. :x

Let's not loose our heads though!

Can you use the second manual save slot, save to it, load from that and see if it still happens?

Second slot had the same result, so I was getting seriously concerned. "This isn't going well..." :dread:

But after the classic "turn it off and on again" approach all was well! "Behold the power of the Monado!" :toot:

Looks like there had been an update downloaded whilst the session had been active which might have screwed it up, once that went through I was able to power through :datass:

I think I'm approaching the end of FC now, at about 9 hours. I've completed all side quests apart from the final ponspector one, as I need to be closer to level 80 to beat the gaping dragon from dark souls in the totally not from dark souls area. I'm now in the other area levelling up a bit, so ill do that side one when I can and then finish the story.

FC seems like a solid chunk of new content then. Looking forward to tackling that when the main game is finished - but I think I've got plenty to go there yet!

Think I spent around 15 hours with FC. Only thing I didn't do were collecting every armour and finishing collectopedia for the swimsuit outfits.

I just can't beat Prosecutor Davrum. Must have tried about 20 times now and if I make it at least half way through his health bar, I'm doing well. Then his air fire attack just wipes my party out at once. Might have to give up on that and just finish the story.

All finished with FC now. I could do that bastard side quest boss, so moved on to the last boss which was so easy in comparison.

This coupled with the main game is one of the best gaming experiences I've had in years. Took me back to school when one of us would get a new rpg on our megadrive or snes and we'd all take turns to play it.

Great stuff

I watched the trailer for XC2. It looks very anime, and considering I thought the Nopon stuff was crap in FC, it makes me a bit apprehensive to play it :dread:

I would say watch more vids on the game and its contents before writing it off completely. It's easy to be deceived as it simply looking too Anime.

Speaking of vids tho. Just got done watching this juicy breakdown of XC from Enel. He goes all in on this so it's a pretty long watch, but still worth it if you want a perspective from someone who is a huge Xeno fan that speedruns the games. Honestly, he echoes a lot of the thoughts and feelings I had with the main game. Made me a bit more confident with where I stand with it since I originally finished XC with conflicted emotions.

It's great, well worth a play despite being somewhat more flawed than XC. It is pretty strawberry floating anime at points, and the story is weaker, but the combat is utterly fantastic and the game world is wonderful. It also has an incredible soundtrack, I would argue that it's one of the best in gaming, if not the best.

XC 2 is really good (the Torna DLC is great as well), not as good as XC 1 but I think XC 1 is probably my favourite JRPG out there so might not be a wholly fair comparison.

The best character in the game is basically a furry with a really broad Welsh accent.

I hope that voice actress turns up in more stuff. I found the voice acting a bit patchy for other characters, but she was legit great.

Nia is one of the best characters around, and she'll mess you up proper if you disagree! XC2 is incredible and well worth your time, I'm in no way a fan of anime stuff and found it to be superb.

How many chapters are there in this? I'm on 9 or 10 now and unless things pick up a lot then my verdict is going to be that XC2 is definitely the superior game. There may be a case of "the first entry you play in a series is always your favourite" going on but even accounting for that I just think 2 is better. Not to say that this is bad mind, I'm really enjoying it after a relatively slow start but it just hasn't hit those same highs as 2 for me - the combat, characters and in particular soundtrack in the second game are just on a completely different level

I def think I prob would have enjoyed XC1 more it was my first game. Knowing the "twist" in 2 kinda ruined it for me because I was waiting for that moment to unfold in 1. But the way it did was just incredibly underwhelming.

There’s 17 chapters altogether in XC 1.

XC2 is legit great even with some of the questionable character design and the awful nopon. Hands down it has the best RPG combat system around, it's ridiculously deep but it's fed to you slowly over the game until you're managing multiple systems with ease. Going back to XC1 after it is kind of disappointing that there isn't that extra layer the sequel has.

Anyways, some advice needed

I'm at the top of Prison Island, party is around lv 81 and I'm trying to decide whether to push on and complete. I've got a bunch of other quests still to do but a lot of those seem to be level 90+ enemies and they take forever due to not doing much damage. I've also not got many advanced art books so the likes of Dunban and Riki have maxed out (to level 6) their arts for now. Are those kinds of things NG+ or am I underleveled for the final showdown? Planning to keep a save to one side anyway in case I don't fancy ploughing through NG+ to get back to the higher level stuff but I can see opportunities for maxing out affinity between party members I've mostly ignored on this playthrough.
