I've not played 2 but XC1 I would say is very much like FFXII - big open areas, MMO style quests, battle system similarities.

(And for the avoidance of doubt absolutely nothing like Monster Hunter)

Started Chapter 5 and immediately went back to see if I missed any side quests since people kept going on about how many side quests they were doing in chapter 4 and I now realise how many I missed and how many hero quests I missed out on too.

Chapter 4 was amazing by the way.

FFXII doesn't really have big open areas, it's all cut up into small loading zones which is incredibly annoying when replaying it with modern sensibilities!

Xenoblade does definitely have big areas though!

I don’t think I’ve actually played much, if anything like Xenoblade in the past so no idea what to potentially compare it to or not?

It’s getting confusing with multiple Xenoblade threads on page 1, well all 3 but XCX (I assume that had a thread on here), shows a lot of love for a great series though

Well deserved love. Even X, I was thinking back to how great that world was. (Shame about what you do in it.)

I think it’s fantastic that Xenoblade is currently getting a lot of GRcade love

Cool thanks guys. Will start this series pretty soon. Just making sure it isn't anything like Monster Hunters or what ever it is called.

Even amongst JRPGs I would say Monster Hunter is very much its own thing with nothing else really doing anything similar. It's a niche that is more or less entirely filled by a single series.
