I had a quick google and i don't believe they are - i've done more on this on ps4 and its absolutely incredible. I have not been so entertained by a game in a long time. I won't say what the side missions are, but they provide excellent comic relief and are an absolute tonal shift from the fairly serious main story which makes them all the more weird when compared to each other.

I'm having trouble with some groups of baddies who stun lock you with loads of kicks and punches, so its a case of finding the right style/moves - the fast style is great at shutting down individuals but does little damage while the third has great sweeping strikes but is a bit slow, so i think the first style will have to do. Nothing as satisfying as breaking out of a group and twatting them all with a bicycle :datass:

It is even more stark when compared to the last game i finished, AssCreed Origins - a game which is incomparable in terms of size but much more empty and lacking in systems or just stuff to do.

The Kuze fight should be easier this time though as it took me a good few attempts to even notice the button prompt in the top right of the screen to do extra damage when he's floored. :fp:

Replayed it this morning. I can't believe it crashed literally seconds away from chapter end, as well. Turns out that attacking grounded opponents is just a standard part of combat, which was good to learn.

Picked up a few side missions already, and they're utterly mad. Does the game time gate any of these? Like, are they only available in certain chapters, or at day/night, for example? I'd hate to lock myself out of any of them. Looking forward to exploring more of Kamurocho, and finding more to do. I picked up a girl's phone card, so need to find out what that does. Can you do anything with prizes from the grab machine in the arcade? I got an axolotl in a top hat, and went to the guy in the arcade and thought the "change prizes" option would be to exchange it for cash or something, but it literally just changed the prizes in the machine.

You don't get locked out of any side missions and when you complete the game it opens up Premium Adventure mode that gives you free roam of the city so you can do all the side quests, mini-games, arse about etc.

I'm not sure if the ability trees are the same as in Kiwami, but I think you can unlock an ability for the heavy style that negates all knockdown when blocking, at the cost of chip damage. It really helps in bigger fights. (And against Breaker Majima in 1)

I'm enjoying this but i'm getting more hacked off with more of the minigames - i don't get the timing for baseball or really understand the pocket racing and am struggling with the darts and pool. I haven't even tried the myriad tile-based games like mahjong etc.

Baseball is an odd one. You need to watch the tip of the bat and Kazuma will wiggle it when you need to press to hit the ball.

I'm probably going to take the long view on some of these minigames - there are 8 yakuza games in total, each crammed full of stuff to do. I'm not going to spend ages maxing out all of them, even if that does mean missing out on a few of the side stories.

Not played 0s baseball but yeah it took me while to get used to it on 3-5, at least if you're used to it in 3 you'll get used to it on other games more or less

Gotta start this on PC as soon as I finish Yakuza 5, can't wait

Since I want to 100% games I need to learn how to do mahjong :( At least with Shogi you can just use the program where you copy other players movement on it, then you make moves in game by copying the CPU on the program

Edit: also Yakuza 3 original lacked them in US/EU versions (which id argue is bad thing, but meant didn't need to worry about them for 100% on that)

What got me was the Pool minigame in 0.
A draw gets counted as a player loss and CPU win.
