Sega must have heard you, Grin... a standard case version is available. It costs more than the steelbook version, though; £30 versus £25.

If I get this then I'll go for the download version. I was gonna hold off and wait for a price reduction but that raft of free DLC in September is mighty tempting.

Hmmn... the first review that I read was published by Push Square, who aren't exactly raving about this updated version. But their opinion seems to be the most underwhelming take on the game; others are far more positive.

For me, I'll run with Yakuza Zero first and keep this as something to look out for in a future download sale.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 announcement has leaked
by Kyle Campbell, 25 August, 2017

We're inching closer to the western release of Yakuza Kiwami, and also an impending livestream event from Ryu ga Gotoku Studio. The stream is meant to showcase the latest titles the studio has been working on, and well it looks like one particular title has leaked early.

A pre-order listing for Yakuza Kiwami 2 appeared on Taiwanese Playstation Store briefly earlier today.

Image

According to the above listing, the game will be a full remake of Yakuza 2 for the PS4 and will be using the same engine as Yakuza 6.

The above listing was taken off the Taiwanese Playstation Store already but the cat is out of the bag already. The release date on the add says December 17, 2017 too! Granted that probably means a western localization is still a long way off, so you have plenty of time to play the first Yakuza Kiwami and catch up. Be sure to check out our review for it too!

We go from fear of no Yakuza in the west to almost too many Yakuza games in the west

Sega said a Yakuza announcement was coming in the next week, and now the remake of Yakuza 2 has been leaked on the Taiwan PSN. Coming to Japan this December, and in the new Yakuza 6 engine so should look substantially better than 0/Kiwami 1.

Edit: Beaten!

You'd have to think a western release is a given at this point. Can't believe how much this has turned around!

Cancelled my preorder of this. Probably won't have time to pay it in between Splatoon 2 and Destiny 2 is out a week and a bit later.

Kept my pre-order but am worried about Yakuza fatigue setting in (due to only recently having spent tens of hours on the excellent Yakuza 0), and so will probably hold off playing this for a while yet. If I can keep myself stocked with games which hook me for the next few months. Maybe.

My steel box copy arrived from Base today. I will get through Uncharted: Chloe first then finally play Yakuza after reading so much about the franchise for years. I think the release schedule in the West, 6 then 0 then 1, might be off-putting to some. But I'm happy to start here and then 2. As it only needs subtitles translated and not a new voice track it could potentially be ready before the end of H1 2018.

To those who've started on Kiwami: how much does this suffer from being the first Yakuza and so, I am assuming, being less feature rich compared to the later games, especially Yakuza 0? If it has lots of interesting side missions and nothing much besides that... I'd be cool with that.

Anybody playing this? is it as good as they remember? Loved it on the PS2. Zero was awesome. Just wondering if it feels like a step down from Zero in terms of playability?

My steelbook has arrived

... Still in middle of my Yakuza 5 playthrough and I have Yakuza 0 waiting for me :shifty: Just wanted to support Yakuza though.

Can't wait though! It's good time to be gamer, three Yakuza games to go through!

I’ve posted this in the PS Store thread but it’s worth highlighting here... Yakuza Kiwami is on sale over this weekend for £19.99.

I just started this (thanks PSN sale) and it seems that that bloody mini car racing mini game is in it. I hated that mini game in Yakuza 0 as it’s addictive.

Anyway I’m hoping that they’ll port the rest of Yakuza games into the PS4.

Well it seems that the reviewer at Push Square is talking nonsense.

This game is superb.

I have to admit that I am still feeling Yakuza fatigue from playing Y Zero to the death.

The best thing about this game? That crazy bastard, Mijiama.

After spending 15 hours or so on it.

All of the mini games are in it. Including the battle arena and Pocket Car racing. The cat fighting are regulated to a card based arcade game that’s popular with the kids (err despite the big breasted women.) Only the dancing and telephone clubs mini games are missing.

And there are 60 side quests I think.

And there’s a huuuuuge side quest where you battle that one eyed psycho to regain your Dragon abilities.

In short it’s Yakuza Zero.

I’m sure that Blackjack is rigged in this game.
