I've found linked in useful in the past to find employment. I don't go on it anymore than that though - there's way too many Barry Homeowners on that platform.

Hard choice. Facebook and Twitter have allowed so much gooseberry fool to spread through their platforms that both deserve to be wiped from existence.

I'll be honest, I have never had an issue with social media. Facebook is essentially a feed of people I have spoken to for 15 years, I never really understood what to do with Twitter and I like Instagram.

Twitter at least seems to be starting to tackle it with banning political ads and what have you.

Tik Tok seems inoffensive enough at the moment, certainly not troubling the Facebook/Twitter cesspit.

Every single time a new social media platform takes off I get anxiety that I've not got a strategy for it.

There's too many of these strawberry floating things. I'm focusing on Instagram.

Just imagine if Trump was banned from Twitter. Imagine how much better the world would be.

TikTok is great but it'll definitely go over a lot of people's heads here.

Isn't TikTok owned by the Communist Party of China?

Twitter

The world would be so much better off without it. Everyone thinks they have something worth saying and their opinion is valid, and it's responsible for mass proliferation of fake news and bots. At least with Facebook you're usually limited to family and friends and racists can just live in their own groups and mostly be ignored. Twitter can be just toxic, trends can strawberry float off and media should stop using it and inflating its importance.
Them again it does deliver the official press releases of the US President

I think it’s a privately owned company in China technically albeit one that does exactly what the Chinese government ask of it.

Lotus wrote:Twitter.

I'm baffled as to how it's become so embedded in society. Seems to be full of absolute cretins, it spreads misinformation, gives a platform to utter morons, its layout and design is gooseberry fool, and I rarely see anything funny, interesting, or useful on there that can't be found elsewhere already. I also hate the effect it's had on news and journalism: tweets from random plebs seemingly being the basis for news articles (i.e. "social media is saying..."), tweets being embedded in articles instead of the journalist doing actual work themselves, and journalists and politicians using it as a platform for spreading news/shite. Plus all the hashtag bollocks. :dread:

Of course other social media platforms have their issues, but Twitter seems like the worse. Feels like it disappearing would do more good than harm.

You could just easily replace Twitter with Facebook and your post would basically be the same btw. And if you want to talk about effects on news and journalism, Facebook royally strawberry floated plenty of media outlets that went for the whole "pivot to video" boom by massively inflating the viewing figures on their videos to the point where it caused layoffs or sites shutting down completely.

The spread of misinformation is also arguably worse on Facebook due to the age range of its users being much wider resulting in more usage from older generations who are much more susceptible to fake news nonsense.

And in terms of layout and design it's objectively one of the worst I use.

TikTok is a nightmare, I don’t really use social media apart from Instagram that I spend about 15 mins a day on but TikTok is so addictive watching what is mostly random dancing or getting in to arguments with people over Northern Ireland, looking on my screen time it’s my fourth most used app

Definitely Facebook given the massive contribution it's had to spreading shite like Anti-Vax, Brexit/Leave falsehoods, 5G/Covid conspiracies, etc.
