John Galt wrote:You Only Live Twice is probably my favourite; it just sums up everything I like about James Bond and the Japanese setting gives the film a much more adventurous character. It's also set the template for pretty much every spy film ever since in terms of Blofeld, the underground lair and the Little Nelly Helicopter.

Poor script as well by Roald Dahl. The bit where Bond turns Japanese? :fp: The bit where they watch what's happening in space on a tv screen? :?

Casino Royale is certainly the best of those I've seen, but my 'favourite' is Goldeneye. Massive quotathon.

So poor they essentially use the same plot device in the Spy Who Loved Me.

YOLT the book is so dark and twisted.

You're criticizing a James Bond film because of a lack of realism? Suspension of disbelief. Let's face it, all of them, without exception are wild fantasy.

YOLT just happens to have the greatest opening to any Bond film ever, and has one of the coolest vehicles ever. Easily in the top three, which would probably consist of

Submarine Lotus in The Spy who loved me
Aston Martin DB6 in Goldfinger
Little Nelly helicopter in You only live twice.

You can't excuse plot holes that easily.

So. I have read the book, twice actually, but it's so different from the book that it doesn't matter at all. The book wouldn't have made a good film anyway, at least not a James Bond film.

Casino Royale, On Her Majesty's Secret Service (which is one of the better storys, but Lazenby is just pure gooseberry fool), Moonraker and Die Another Day.

As for favourite, it's got to be either Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, Licence To Kill or The Spy Who Loved Me.

Edit: or The Man With The Golden Gun.

In fact, it's not bad that out of the 22 entries in the franchise, there's only four that I don't really like.

Goldeneye for me - Superb performance from Brosnan, great story and great action sequences. Not to mention two of my personal favourite Bond girls. However, I do absolutely love The Man with the Golden Gun - Its a very different kind of Bond film but I think its absolutely hilarious in places. I always liked Roger Moore as bond, crap from an action minded perspective but he brought something different to the films - they were almost more like spoofs at times but in the best way possible.
