Fixing battle mode was certainly a welcome addition but there's an argument to be made the two weapon system worsens the game.

It does.

That’s a terrible argument. :P

Too many weapons flying round in the midfield and easier for first to defend their position because most double item blocks they’ll get something to defend from shells. Makes the middle more chaotic and race is more about getting out ahead early.

Mario Kart is organised chaos dressed up as a racing game and I'm not sure I buy that more of that's a bad thing. I don't think I agree with your other point either: I may be misremembering, but isn't it the case that if you drag an item behind you it takes up an item slot? In other games you could drag one item and have another in reserve, so you're still basically holding the regulation two while in first. (Personally I think that DD's system, whereby you couldn't drag items but had to fire them backwards at the right time, is better.)

By the by, Tomous, what was your favourite Mario Kart before 8? And I don't mean the one that you thought was the best, I mean the one you had the fondest feelings for.

Organised chaos it is, but you can have too much chaos where it gets more frustrating than it needs to be. Also, my point on first place is, you get two chances at a “protective” item rather than one everytime you hit a double item box.

I don’t actually have a favourite Mario Kart before 8, I’ve been playing them since Super Mario Kart and enjoyed and loved them all. Maybe Double Dash I have the fondest memories of, but that’s just because I was in Uni. If I had been in Uni with any of the others it would have been the same.

Okay, mine was DD too so that absolutely does not prove the point I hoped to. :fp: Maybe starting with SMK... I’m grasping at straws here though.

Also, were you not always dragging a protective item behind you so you’d get two anyway? I suppose if you just lost it and had a coin in reserve as you hit the double-item box... that’s a very specific nit-picky scenario though.

Anyway, it’s nowhere near enough to overrule the improvement that the new racers (welcome back King Boo!) and good battle mode had for me.

Same way as in Wii or 7 or 64 if I recall correctly.

You could only hold one, whereas in DX you can hold two. Otherwise they're the same I'm pretty sure (other than the new Boo and Feather items).

EDIT: Can't believe I just got tricked into a serious reply :(

Speaking of Switch ports, I saw yesterday that Layton's Mystery Journey (or whatever it was called in the end) was coming out on the Switch in November! It's the weakest of the Layton's, but hopefully that means they'll be keeping the franchise going (or maybe more realistically bringing over all the other games too...)

Favorite real ports : Diablo 3, Dark Souls.

If you call Breath of the Wild a port, then that too. And Mario Kart.
