Ooh good shout, I remember playing the GTA1 demo loads of times back in the day. It was time limited to 10 minutes if I recall rightly so we all just took turns seeing how much destruction and cash we could rack up in that time!

For me it's probably:

This is Football 2002 - I really don't know why but I got addicted to this demo and would play it all the time. Eventually bought the full game.
Pro Evo 2015 - same as above.

How could I forget the Tekken 3 demo! I played that with my nextdoor neighbour for hours upon hours. Days even. She was always better at it than I was, but come to think of it that would actually have to come out on top. Came in a special case and with art on the disc too.

It was a bit of a con because OPM could have easily run the other demos on the disc that month, but to be honest I wasn't remotely bothered.

This thread is now making me nostalgic for demo discs :(

Downloading demos just isn't the same for random discoverability

MGS 2, then probably MGS 1.

Back in the day the Amiga demos were epic as was PS1.

MGS 2 showed that giving people enough time to play the game meant they'd go on to buy it.

Wish my image sig would work

MGS 2 Tanker. What a demo!

Also the Syphon Filter demo on PS1 was great.
Same disc as the excellent G-Police Demo too.

I played the FFX demo that came with the PS1 version of FFVI quite a bit but weirdly it took me until the HD remaster to finally beat the game. I came close back in the day but lost interest after reaching the Calm Lands.

I certainly feel like I experience a lot loss now because there is either no demo in the first place, or you don’t necessarily know what to look for or whether it’s even worth bothering to download when there is. Whereas on the disc I’d play everything. The demo of Codemasters Music for example sold me on the final game, and that wasn’t uncommon.

Used to play it all the time at college along with shareware versions of Wolfenstein and Biomenace and PGA golf '96 which someone had installed on most of the networked PCs.

The demo of GTA was the suggestively titled "Hot Bitch Teaser Demo" which featured several scantily clad player character portraits to choose from - no idea where this version came from but it didn't look official.

There was also a folder full of porn games on one of the PCs, including a button mashing wanking minigame featuring Viz characters and a point & click flash game which involved a fictitious porn star inserting various objects up her chuff. :slol:

I completely forgot about shareware stuff. Yes we used to play that to death (like doom and duke nukem). Entire first sections of the game for free, madness.

Best of all was most game demos with some sort of multiplayer component could be played on a LAN, and as we had 2 equal spec pcs in the house, me and my friend used to hammer those demos. Best one was medal of honour allied assault - I think you got 2 demo maps, but this one was amazing, god only knows how long we spent playing that (mute the video, it has terrible music).

That map was so good, proper hide and seek, plus my mate used to throw stuff when he lost a lot, so i loved getting a lot of kills against him on this one, I could hear things crashing and him cussing from upstairs.

*thinks he's being sneaky, I watch him walk all the way up the building and the second he pokes his head out of the window BANG*

"Oh for strawberry float SAAAAAKKKEEEE :slol: :slol: :slol: "

Other than *ahem* Pro Evo, this too.

While on the subject of the Amiga; I remember a game called Gravity Force II (which I think was the full game on a coverdisk) that got a helluva lot of play with me and my mates.

Either of you play Cannon Soccer? The days of bespoke demos for particular magazines.

Yeah, demos do still exist but the difference is I will only download and play them for games I'm already interested in

I think there was actually Mega-lo-Mania stuff in the game too. Secret best Sensible Software game...well maybe not, SWOS is still that I guess.
