When one of the highlights of the summer is trips to the local dump to get rid of some old carpet. Or the ‘household recycling centre’ as all the young uns are calling it these days :fp:

It’s like a middle-aged person’s theme park. Our local one has ramps and everything. Of course, in my day you could just drive up to the dump and root about in the rubbish for stuff and take home anything you liked. I talk to the kids about my many dump trips and my enthusiasm rubs off on them. They want to come along next time but I know they’ll only ruin it for me with their gen Z indifference so I’ll keep it as a purely private pleasure. My special place

When someone in your class says "we're the first generation that doesn't know what it's like to not have the internet". University is making me feel ancient.

A group of them were also thinking of going to an 80s themed club and that made me feel old. Realistically I know the 80s were ages ago but in my head they don't feel that long ago

Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" is released (you were 24 years old)

And honestly, I felt like I aged 20 years watching it

Going down the pub on a Friday night and getting drunk no appeal
