When you sigh and cry when your favourite childhood films get rebooted and remade.

Yeah, I had a mild panic attack in the Feedback forum last week when I thought they were talking about moving to Discord. But it was Discourse they're talking about, which I think still pretty much acts as an old style forum.

Oh also, as a teacher, I see a lot of what ‘the kids’ are playing and while 99% of the time I get what’s going on even if I don’t always see the appeal (Minecraft, Fortnite etc) sometimes one just comes outta left field and I’m like ‘Sorry but what the strawberry float is Roblox?’

It's a virtual sweatshop and scrip economy, apparently.

Early Green Day was almost 30 years ago. Pretty sure that ain't modern rock.

Even the ones you've listed - why not ones from Jerry Lee Lewis' era too? Classic rock ain't just 60s and 70s - that definition is going to evolve as we get older.

No, classic rock is stuff from the 60s and 70s.

Time ticks on and terminology does evolve but I do think it's fairly common for the term "Classic Rock" to be used to describe that period though, and I suspect that will probably stay the case for a while.

It's not just about how old something becomes, a band like Green Day might be getting on a bit but that doesn't mean they naturally become Classic Rock when there are other terms to describe that 90s era

Definitely that is the most common parlance, but that will change. And might have already changed; if I asked a bunch of 14 year olds they probably wouldn't all restrict their definition to just two decades.

That it's the basis of all modern rock music, and is classic in that regard. I wouldn't call 80s onward classic, as it's all derivative

Yeah but 14 year olds are all idiots!

But it is depressing/interesting to reflect on the fact that stuff from the 90s and early 00s is now as old to the current generation as 60s/70s stuff was to me when growing up! :dread:

I'm not sure Green Day or Nirvana derived from the Beatles as much as the Beatles derived from early Motown.

Off topic slightly, but Motown music sounds incredible. It's not my favourite genre, but god it just sounds so beautiful.

Edit: great minds!
