I'm pretty sure the term classic rock was coined by radio stations and so it stands to reason if they're now playing 90s and 00s stuff (which they are) the scope of what is considered classic rock will change.

Which is another one of those "You're getting old" moments - when you hear a radio station playing a "classic" or "oldies" section and it's all songs that you consider "contemporary"

Were just old, I have never felt more in tune with Grandpa Simpson as I do right now.

Every time a TV show or radio announced The Stone Roses back in the day, everyone in my house used to groan as we all thought they were shite.

Though my brother was hardly in a position to criticise what with his love for Dire Straits and (later) The Notting Hillbillies.

The first Stone Roses album is one of the greatest of all time.

Shame there was no second album.

Why? What defines that?

That it's the basis of all modern rock music, and is classic in that regard. I wouldn't call 80s onward classic, as it's all derivative

I'm not sure Green Day or Nirvana derived from the Beatles as much as the Beatles derived from early Motown.

Pixies, Melvins and probably Black Sabbath were more likely influences for Nirvana.

And there'd have been no Black Sabbath without the Beatles...

On the topic of classics/oldies, my missus showed me a TikTok about K-Pop music the other day, something along the lines of "If you recognise any of these old (mid-'00s) songs, you're a 'K-Pop Grandma.'"

I knew every strawberry floating one of them. :slol:

These bloody Gen-Zedders and their BTSs and such, don't know they're bloody born. :capnscotty:

It's obviously not possible to have an official definition of it, but if 90s music is "classic rock" what is 60s music? Archaic rock?
