What sort of pansy ass case is that?

Heres a real mans case.

And you didn't include a proper mounting system for the monitors.

On a more serious note, Cal if you get your friend to take a look at Scans selection of prebuilds I'm sure you'll find a decent base to work from. I like the systems built around the FT03 because its a gorgeous case in the flesh even if it doesn't look amazing in photos.

The EVGA SR-2 should be the bare minimum!

Look, those boards were just a stopgap for the days before processor manufacturers got their gooseberry fool together and integrated just about the entire mobo into the CPU.

The Bit-Tech/CustomPC Hardware Guide is good, although that's September's list, with the main advantage being that they test all the hardware configurations they recommend, so you know that buy buying that exact mobo, etc, you don't need to worry about compatability, etc.

Just under budget.

You'd still need a mouse & keyboard, and speakers if the kid doesn't already have them. And a DVI or HDMI cable to connect the graphics card to the PC.

What kind of build is that? You didn't include a chandelier or a bottle of 1951 vintage single malt whiskey. Amateurs.

Where is he going to drink his Lapsang Souchong from?!

In all seriousness, just go to Maf's post and make that build. Stick a monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, soundcard, chandelier, etc. in and stop being a manchild.

There's an SSD in there too, so the speed of mass storage shouldn't be an issue.

The real sticking point is a complete lack of gold plated, ruby-encrusted SATA cables.
