Once you get movement options you just style on them.

Yeah I'm 4 EMMI's down now and still think they're great, the only reason I can think that someone would have a problem with them is if they are completely failing to engage with the purpose of those sections. It's a game of cat and mouse and you are the mouse, stay the strawberry float away from the cat! I really like the options they give you for avoiding them using the powers available to you - they've created some of the best tension filled moments of the game for me so far!

Phantom cloak makes a huge difference too.

The only one that really did my head in was the purple one because it felt unnecessarily overpowered when having to move slowly through water.

Are there not some occasions where you need to cloak and hide on an overhead climbing wall?

I've got to say I'm strawberry floating love this, and a huge part of that is just how slick they've made everything feel - Samus really is a joy to handle in a way that I don't think I've seen in any other Metroid game to date (I never played the 3DS game so no idea how it compares to that). They've even managed to make things like the grapple beam feel not gooseberry fool for once! :toot:

Met Dr Beakface Exposition who promptly died on me, not really a fan of this kind of cutscene and dialog heavy stuff in my Metroid but it wasn't too offensive.

If there is , I don't remember it. I tried the hiding approach, cloaking And hiding in little alcoves, things like that, rolling to keep quiet, then it'd hang around me in a loop, then just find me by a door and I'd die. So in the end you'd just learn the quickest route to the door the game wants you to use and leg it to that. It wasn't fun at all.

This is the closest I got to getting some actual memorable gameplay out of an Emmi encounter:

And even that was done out our desperation having done the section over and over and over.

It feels so good when you time the melee counter right on them :datass:

Managing the counter is good, but it inevitably happened when I was still working out where to go so I got EMMI-ed again moments later. :slol:

I managed to counter it about 5 times in one encounter, sliding under its legs each time to escape, before getting trapped in a corner, with it just walking around me in a circle. I died.

Next load I just ran to the door now I knew where to go.

I raised an eyebrow at that bit initially too, but looking back on it I think it worked. Interested to hear what you think in retrospect once you've finished.

I'm on Team "EMMIs are OK" too. I broadly agree that the ice one wasn't executed as well as it could have been, but I was a fan of the sections overall.

EMMI chat

Did people really find the blue EMMI worse than the purple EMMI? I dont remember having much trouble with blue but hated purple with a passion. But I've seen most complaints for blue.

I've forgotten how the colours match up to their powers to be honest. The freezing one felt slightly janky in how it worked, but I still liked it, and I didn't find it any more difficult than the others. The one that shot lightning balls and the one that could pretty much always sense you were both fine IMO.

Wow, this game really under-explains shinesparks doesn't it? I had no idea you could maintain momentum by wall jumping.

Learn by doing Tomous, learn by doing! :capnscotty:

What they really needed was a random alien thing to turn up and demonstrate all of this to you in a diegetic way, right ORKN?

......or just include it in the tutorial screens ;)

Or at the very least encourage you to experiment so you know they're not explaining everything.

Do the EMMI's get more diverse then? In all honesty I can't really say I noticed much different about any of the ones I've faced so far, I think green might have been the last one I killed - it was the one that gives you the Speed Boost upgrade.

I've broadly stuck with the same tactics for all of them so far so it will be interesting to see if the last few force me to mix it up a bit
