PC building and other techy assemblage - worth waiting for Black Friday? Could you build a PS5 Pro PC for £700? (Yes)

Anything to do with games at all.

I’m surprised it doesn’t line up. The GPU is on the PciE
Slot. Lay the case done on its side with the window pointing up. Then try to get it flat and straigh and it should line up with the screw holes and the hdmi slots would be clear.

Yeah, it's really weird. I thought maybe the fact it's kind of resting on the fan might have something to do with it, but that's all the way on the other side of the case and shouldn't have that big of an effect on the back? I could move that fan to the other side so it's on the side where the pop-off front panel is. Airflow would be worse (probably?), but it would at least eliminate that as a potential cause of the issue and allow me to focus on other things.

The pci-e slots on the case are pretty small though, so maybe it's just an issue with the case?

Anyway, it's ddefinitely in the slot as the computer is now up and running (though I somehow managed to disconnect my HDD while putting it all together (which I think is where my keyboardd chattering fix startup app is located, because it's not running at the moment andd all these double inputs are driving me nuts!))

Edit: Played some Portal. Looks way nicer than I remember. Also seems somewhat more demanding than I remember. Weird. Anyway, back to my lo-fi 2D platformers and rhythm games at a totally unnecessary 1000fps or something.
(temps were good, getting to around 70°C at the highest)

Didn't they do an RTX update for Portal? Thought I'd seen that on Steam recently.

Yeah, that's what I was hinting at.

In defence of Dowbocop I was also halfway through writing a post yesterday helpfully explaining why portal looked better and took up more resources before I realised "oh he's joking" haha.

Been very happy with my setup - had Control running on a lovely smooth 60FPS with all the Ray tracing and Ultra options etc. Good even get about 100fps but I limited it to save some GPjUice for streaming to twitch.

Will try to get some decent pics of the finished setup. It's not perfect but it's mine and I love it a lot. Big thanks to everyone again!

Is this the official building topic?

Does anyone know if there's much point waiting on Black Friday for a GPU? Idk what the margins are for stores so I'm guessing there's not much discount apart from maybe entire prebuilds?

I'm after a new GPU to replace mine that struggles with a few games with SteamVR running in the background. I'm not super desperate so I could wait until the end of November.

I tried searching online but I couldn't see much info about computer Black Friday 2023 deals

How much do you guys think it would cost to build a PS5 Pro level PC during the black friday sale?
The Pro is £700 so do you think you can get much below that?

I'm not updating the title every time, per say, but PC's PC PS query peaked me interest.

There are some discounts, mainly on older stuff. Best bet is buying founders edition cards from Nvidia via scan.

PS5 pro question. The consoles have effectively AMD 3600x CPUs in them. It’s not upgraded in the PS5 pro. Graphics cards are 2070 super to 2080 in the original consoles and the pro is boosted to 4060/7700xt territory. It’s hard to know without seeing optimisation and the new upscaler.

You can get close to it with a pc for £700. But when you get to £1000 or so you get big jumps.

I’ve tried. Cut some corners on case and storage, but this would beat a ps5 pro with ease. You could cut the Graphics card down a little.

Gets expensive when you jump to AM5 and a 7700x which would be an awesome build platform as AM5 will be supported by AMD for a while and you can upgrade CPU later.

Would building a more balanced system be a better way to go?
Spend less on the GPU and more on the CPU?

No need. But it depends on what resolution you are playing at, 1080p and higher refresh needs more CPU. 1440p needs more GPU. Rule of thumb is GPU over CPU and the 5700 is a banging cpu and far better than the consoles have.

You could drop to a 7700xt graphics card or look 2nd hand but I’m close.

Just wanted to say I still really appreciate the help you (and others here) gave me a couple of years back, still really enjoying my PC.

Or something like this for a PS5 pro, but a few more corners cut with some budget parts.

might be better waiting for the nect generation of cards. I've been considering an RTX4070ti super but the 50XX cards are rumoured to be due out later this year / early next year.

Same is true for AMDs RX/RDNA 4 cards

This post is exempt from the No Context Thread.
