Yep, perhaps just take a short break. I've done this in the past and I always feel better for it. Sometimes it's just for an hour; occassionally a few days. It helps.
Just a suggestion - if you find yourself getting into an argument that's "contentious", try to just walk away from it. In that scenario, things quickly escalate and it is possible that meanings become a little twisted; on both sides of the argument. I've been in that situation once or twice here in GR before and I am trying to avoid those sorts of incidents now.
