Finally.
Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan said the Government is set to impose tighter travel restrictions on travel with the UK until 19 July due to concerns over the Delta variant, which will see the self-isolation period increased from five days to ten.
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, he said that two negative PCR tests will be required to ensure people are free of infection.
He said that after 19 July travel restrictions will ease for all international travel, add that "every expectation is that the path we are set on is the one we will follow".
Grumpy David wrote:Anyone really wanting to fly to the Republic of Ireland from GB would just fly into Northern Ireland, rent a car at the airport and bypass any forced hotel stays or unenforceable self isolation at home for 5 (or now 10) days. You also don't need to take COVID-19 tests (probably around £150) or complete a passenger locator form before boarding domestic flights within the UK.
Not much we can do about that though, are you suggesting we shouldn't have any restrictions because the north doesn't?
We can only hope Northern Ireland introduces similar sanctions.
A united Ireland would sort this all out.
