Sorry dude, I just think it looks rubbish. Very soulless and un-Ghostbusters-y.

Nah that's fair, I'm just mucking about.

It's being touted as a live action, film length Real Ghostbusters episode, which I'm happy with.
To be honest as long as it harks back to the original two movies, has (the proper) ecto and proton packs spooling up, I'll be happy :)

:datass: a fantastic movie

My favourite story about the making of The Abyss is Ed Harris nearly dying and punching James Cameron in the face because he kept filming rather than getting help.

Good for Ed Harris.

Yep, but it's quite controversial for reasons that go over my head.

772 pages of discussion on it here (!):
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=294361

From what I read the 4K transfer was based on the same transfer they made for the 3D release.
One of the big issues is that for that 3D release they applied a lot of Digital Noise Reduction to the picture, which cleans up a lot grain. But they went too far meaning that skin looks waxy and overly smooth. It's quite bad. Since that transfer seems to have been the basis of the 4K remaster it's really noticable.

There are also other changes, with a slightly bluer tone applied to the film and a handful of small effect tweaks and corrections. But it's the DNR over-use which is the biggest issue.

The 1080p BluRay version is still probably the best one in terms of picture quality.

Looking forward to the Abyss. I watched a fan up-scale a few months ago and it's still a great looking film.
Also looking forward to potential True Lies and Aliens at some point. It's crazy we've not had that yet.

I'll probably pick up Titanic as well to replace my Blu Ray copy. Great looking movie.

Got it, cheers. I did notice that it looked unusually 'modern', which maybe is the result of the loss of grain.

I'm not familiar at all with Madame Web other than having heard of her so I can't tell if this looks good or not. I think the trailer seems a bit poor, it's not exactly hooking me in at the moment.

I believe this is supposed to tie into the recent Sony spiderverse films.

Also what's with all the multiple looking spider heroes. Are they some sort of female spider team in comics.

It's three or four different iterations of Spider-Woman/Spider-Girl and Arana,(Julia Carpenter, Mattie Franklin and Anya Corazon) who all have Spider-powers. If you want a massive probable spoiler for the film, that villain shown is almost definitely not Ezekiel Sims, who he's identified as in the trailer, and is almost definitely Morlun, the Spider-killing vampire-terminator who along with his family is the principle villain in the Spider-Verse comics. Possibly a composite character. I don't mind a bit of deviation from the source material but they've shat all over two decent characters, there.

Madame Web looks like a 90s film, in a bad way. Action scenes filmed at night to save budget, the super heroes only appear in the last 15 minutes and the best bits are all in the trailer.

I have a theory that since 'superhero fatigue' appears to be somewhat real, the only movies that will do well in the genre are the same ones that would've worked 20 years ago - Batman and Batman-adjacent (Joker 2), Spider-Man and anything related with Spidey rather than a villain of his (Spiderverse), Superman and X-Men. Madame Web looks exactly like the Catwoman/Elektra-esque mid-budget flop that existed within that same time period. Could be so bad it's good though, rather than purely awful.

Madame Web...

Sony once more continuing their quest to stink up the place with their shitty Spider-Man adjacent properties.

Spider-Verse movies aside they've not put out anything legitimately good since Spider-Man 2.
Just strawberry float off and let Marvel have the rights back properly.

Madame Web is being sent out to die in February next year, surprised they're even bothering with it.

I still absolutely LOVE that Sony are trying to have Spiderman-based cinematic universe...without Spiderman

It looks like a Blumhouse slasher film where the killer dresses as legally distinct Spider-Man.
