And we wonder why people can't find these threads?

It's a perfectly cromulent thread title.

It's cliquey as strawberry float.

It's a reference to one of the most famous jokes on the show(as is the post you've responded to), I don't really see how that's cliquey to be honest.

Well, for the reason that started this conversation. Average Joe (sorry Hexx) wants to post Simpsons related news, searches for the Simpsons thread and can't find it, because you need to be aware that the Simpsons thread is called something else. It's a forum-specific quirk and quite unwelcoming for outsiders. Hence, cliquey.

It's niche, not cliquey. It's not a forum specific quirk either, it's an actual quote from the show. The thread was started specifically for a conversation about the Canyonero quote/episode fifteen years ago and has evolved into a more general Simpsons meme page over time, the thread title was simply never changed. That is neither unwelcoming nor cliquey, simply missable. Not everything that isn't immediately obvious is cliquey and vice versa, and it's a point of genuine frustration that people confuse the two. Calling something "cliquey as strawberry float" and "unwelcoming" implies a fairly deep negative and if you read the thread, there very clearly isn't anything negative or unwelcoming about it.

From the page of the Canoyonero thread that I keep getting redirected to when I click the new post button:

If you can find it. ;)

Cliquey is probably the wrong word, but I do think these kinds of things aren't helpful, especially to outsiders. Since the thread has evolved to a more general chat I don't see why it couldn't be 'Canyonero - The Simpsons discussion' or something to aid visibility. I don't mean to be the fun police, I'm just trying to explain that these things can be confusing.

I know the Simpsons quote and I know that that thread is for Simpsons stuff.

But every time I see the thread, I automatically assume it's anime gooseberry fool or something like that and just ignore it.

So I agree the thread title is unnecessarily confusing, even to people who know what it is.

But I don't think we need to worry about outsiders. Nobody new wants to join us anyway, except for Russian bots.

It’s the same actor - they’re just old

I’d argue Marge is worse.

She's slowly morphed into Patty and/or Selma.

Nah, that’s her mother’s voice, just without the wheeze.

The point is, if you’re a voice actor and you can’t do the voice anymore it’s time to step the strawberry float aside and stop assuming you’re the only one on the planet that can do the voice.

this could all be avoided if pricks would just create new threads.

This post is exempt from the No Context Thread.

If you want to discuss new threads, why not just create a new thread to discuss it, rather than clogging up this one?

To be fair, that probably is decades ago so you didn't need it fixing.

No no no no no, season 8 is the peak. Season 9 is ok, everything after that episode with Kid Rock in it is poor.

Though I genuinely think over the past couple of years specifically the writing has improved quite a lot, but yes you can't account for aging actors unwilling to retire. It was bad enough when Marcia Wallace died and they retired the Edna Krabappel character, I don't want to ever tempt fate but Harry Shearer is 80! If The Simpsons goes another 10 years is he going to be doing all those voices aged 90. If he dies are they going to retire Burns/Smithers/Skinner/Brockman/etc/etc/etc

But I suppose it's a Disney property now and how many actors have voiced Mickey Mouse at this point

Apparently the last couple of seasons have been pretty good. Not back-to-golden-age good but I was listening to a video by Super Eyepatch Wolf, who does a lot of Simpsons stuff, and he was saying that they've been a lot more inventive in exploring some of the side characters. I think he said there was one episode that essentially dialogue free, another where Carl explored what it was like being the only black person in Springfield, and I think there was a Treehouse of Horror where they get stuck in a land of Simpsons memes or something.

I've not checked it out myself but apparently it's an interesting new direction.
