Most cans here have ring pulls.

I've only seen ring pulls on things like tuna cans. Where are you getting your groceries Mr. Millionaire :x

I am far from a millionaire, but most cans here have ring pulls now.

Except corned beef which still has the bizarre, annoying and dangerous key system.

It depends on the tin opener you're using I always thought. The cheap 39p openers tend to take the collar off along with the lid, but the more chunky ones will leave the collar on the can. I prefer the latter as I think having the sharp edge on the can as opposed to the lid is more dangerous.

I didn’t have a kid then. All my money now goes on Aldi versions of popular brand names.

Cans have had ring pulls for the best part of 30 years. I have a nice scar on my thumb from opening a can of cat food when I was 20 and the lid peeling right off and slicing through my thumb. Clearly designs have improved since.

We have an electric opener that basically uses voodoo to open the lid and somehow suspend the can without it dropping.

Yes?

My parents used to have an electric can opener, was rubbish though as the can just kept falling off part way through.

With the can opener I have I think I can only do the way shown in that video, never tried it the other way with it really.

As Moggy said though most do have ring pulls on them now. How that system is still in use for corned beef is another thing! Always breaks before it gets to the end whenever I open some :(

The only cans I open with an opener is tuna, and my can opener is shite so it depends on how the bloody thing wants to sit on the can.

Canned corn beef? I always get mine in a packet. Is there a major difference in taste? I don't think I've ever had it canned before.

Vertical, horizontal is stupid and just asking to cut yourself.

On the very rare occasions I now have to open a can with an opener (we're talking maybe 3 or 4 times a year), it's the vertical method. My gran has the battery operated one but it's not very good, and it's also prone to carry on turning unless you take the batteries out (it has no off button!).

9/10 cans now have ring pulls, even the economy lines. Branston baked beans I think are the main exception...which is an outrage considering how much their beans cost.

Canned tends to be less dry, plus has the added bonus of being able to choose how thick the slices are.

And it’s always exciting to have a trip to A&E when you slice your hands open.

Vertical, because that's the only way I thought you could do it.

Incorrectly it seems.

Vertical may be incorrect, and the only way I knew how to do it until recently, but it does produce a lid that fits inside the used can, saving some space in the rubbish.
