Surprised no-one else here has mentioned these at all (Not that I can see anyway).

Basically leading up to the 26th April (Actual anniversary I guess), they're releasing six, ten minute short films based on Alien.

First three are already up and they're pretty decent so far. Looking forward to the next three. I think they release each Friday on IGN.

Aliens was only the 4th greatest film according to the recent Eliminator thread, and Alien didn't even make it on the list so clearly the franchise is not deserving of anyone's attention!

This does sound like a fun way to celebrate the anniversary of the franchise though, I'm definitely going to give them a watch when I get a chance!

I watched the Containment one on my lunchbreak just now, pretty good.

I think Specimen is my favourite one so far, but Containment was good too.

Night Shift is alright but it has one of my favourite bits of detail from the three so far.

When she beats the chest burster to death with the baseball bat and you see chunks of it have dissolved from the acid.

Watched 3 of these:

Containment - think this was the best, nice and gory.
Specimen - liked it, but the CGI on the facehugger was lame-o and it was far too noisy.
Night Shift - this was alright, but the ending didn't make much sense. Suddenly the colony is a warzone? Where did that come from?

I liked how these were just small vignettes with a very small scope. I think the Alien franchise could do with having a tighter narrative that is set in one location, with a small group of characters and a single (or low-number) Xenomorph threat. Back to its roots kinda deal.

Shows the franchise has more to offer and more stories to tell, which is promising.

I think with Night Shift the obvious implication is that the dead facehugger you see in the foreground that got the guy was only one of many. It's deliberately vague and I agree that it just came out of nowhere at the end. Night Shift was easily the weakest of the three so far.

I said this to my colleague about the anniversary, now he feels old, he seen it in the cinema when it first came out.

This and Aliens are GOAT films.
