Build a character that can carry loads of stuff, and/or use the perks which decrease weight of food/water/meds. Use the perks that decrease the weight of junk, as you need to carry buttloads of it to fix stuff, or...
Buy atoms using real money to buy repair kits. I resorted to doing that a couple of times and I’m not ashamed to admit it despite what the tinfoil hatters here say. The game was ‘free’ for me so sod it, it reduced the stress.
Thanks, Buff! The game has changed a bit and the "survival" elements need a lot more management than before; some folk like this but I always enjoyed just wandering around and building camps! I believe that a future update will change the focus on food and drink; you won't die from not eating or drinking but you will get a buff if you do keep them topped up. Seems like a decent compromise. I haven't purchased any repair kits and I'd like to avoid doing so; I agree that it's all cool if folk want to use them, though.

Okay... leading on from my earlier post, I have just returned to the game for the first time in maybe seven weeks and played for an hour.
Things are better; quite a bit better
.
It seems that food, drink, weapon damage, armour damage and enemy health have all been adjusted. No longer is water running out after five minutes or guns getting damaged after firing eight shots. Enemies are much better; generally no longer in packs in the forest area and your guns now do more damage against them. VATS is improved; most of my shots were hitting the target although there seems to be a bug if you try and use it on a body part that already has 95% damage; VATS won't target it and you have to switch to a manual shot.
I'm a lot happier than I was back in September. I think I will return to it being my "main" game; I'll give it a go and see how it pans out. I do miss not having Fallout 1st now, though...
and I might have to re-subscribe. At least for the first month as I get back into it. .
It feels good to have returned to the game and find that most of the fun that I had enjoyed with it over the previous year is there again. Hoorah
