Explain twitter culture to me

and some of the replies have me puzzling. I understand the concept of "the ratio" on Twitter - the ratio of replies versus likes and retweets shows whether it was well received - and I assume when someone replies with just the word "ratio" it's a deliberate attempt to dislike the tweet. Is that also what is happening when people reply with just "."?
There are also replies of just "W" and "L". I'm guessing that's shorthand for win/lose, is the context just W approving of a tweet and L disapproving, or is there some relation to the ratio and deliberately posting to affect the ratio?
This is a dumb thread but I tried searching this and couldn't find any explanation beyond explaining the concept of the ratio (probably because the characters "W", "L" and "." are not very searchable), and now I need to know.
