If you could change one 2016 outcome which would you pick - Brexit or President Trump?

Fed up talking videogames? Why?

You have the power to reverse only one of 2016's major outcomes. Which do you choose?

Poll ended at Wed Nov 16, 2016 12:10 pm

I'd reverse Brexit - the UK would be remaining in the European Union.

71%
I'd reverse Trump - Hillary Clinton would be president-elect of the US.

Simple enough really. If you had the power to change the outcome of one of 2016's two major votes, which would you go for?
Reverse the result of the EU referendum, or the US election?

Would you choose to make the UK remain in the EU, or to make Clinton president ahead of Donald Trump?

And, of course... why?

Brexit, because it's far more likely to affect my life day-to-day than an orange potato in Washington.

The US vote. If this all goes to gooseberry fool, Brexit will be forgotten about. Although I'd much prefer to have more choice than just Trump or Clinton.

Brexit, Trump is an idiot but the chances of him actually being able to any major damage outside of saying gooseberry fool are slim, Brexit has a real impact on the day to day lives of millions.

Less chance of you dying from Brexit. Unless life support involves Toblerone, Mustard and Marmite.

Brexit.

The US vote is terrible, but in 2 years' time the Democrats can cripple Trump in the midterms by retaking the Senate (opposition parties always fare well in the midterms), and in 4 years' time they can undo him altogether - ideally with an Hispanic Obama in one of the Castro brothers. From there, we can move toward more and better reforms than were possible before, as the older generation passes on and the GOP is left with a much reduced white base, leaving America a more liberal country than it is now. The only long-term damage he can wreak is via the SCOTUS, but hopefully nobody else will die or retire on that front until Trump is gone.

Brexit is much, much harder to undo or reverse, and stands to strawberry float the country up for a generation or more if things go as badly as feared. So yeah, I would change the Brexit result.

Brexit. I'll feel wounded by that for years.

I did see an article putting forward the idea that actually, for post-Brexit Britain, Trump is the better president.

I read something similar but can't seem to find it. I do think Trump would be open to a trade agreement with us but im not convinced he will be open to giving us a great deal. However that is likely better than what Clinton would have done.

Also i had forgotten about Clinton's stance on the Falklands. I'm now happy that she didnt get in.

Brexit.

Trump is a horrible man and is likely to be a disaster but Brexit will have more impact on me (and my family) personally.

Plus Brexit is likely to be forever, whereas Trump may well get hamstrung in 2 years (midterms) and will hopefully be gone in 4 years.

You could choose not to vote, if you happen to be a really abhorrent person.

Another reason I would change Brexit and not Trump is that I live in the UK and am a British citizen. The American's (no matter how strawberry floating stupid I think it is) have the right to pick their own leader without me interfering.

Brexit - Because that directly involves me and my life. The Trump saga probably won't influence anything to do with my life directly (unless of course he starts a WWIII)

I think the opening paragraph of that clearly shows where the authors support lies.

If Trump wins, I wonder if the BBC will be as exultant as it was in 2008, when Obama won? Here’s a small bet – it won’t be. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. It’s almost worth him winning for that alone. Oh, and for the Guardian’s tears.

The whole idea of Trump being better for Britain is based on Obama saying that we would be at the back of the queue for a new trade deal and Trump saying that he would prioritise us. Trump says a lot of things though, he is isolationist and wants trade tariffs for instance, and so I wouldn't take what he says as something that will actually happen.
