Molex (the one you have shown) is still used with some things but the ribbon cable (IDE) is pretty much dead in home pc, it has all moved to SATA which is what your HDD seems to be using. Your PSU will have the correct connectors for the power and the mobo should come with SATA cables so you shouldn't have any issues.

Bought everything and went for a single DVD RW drive in the end. Should all arrive before the weekend hopefully.

I've never built a PC from scratch so can anyone recommend a good start to finish guide? One that's for people who don't know much of the jargon would need great if it's possible.

Would you believe pcpartpicker actually has a youtube channel?

It's pretty straight forward, just slight differences between boards and cases, if in doubt read the manual or ask people.

They don't mention it much but they do have quite a few different build logs on there so you can kind of see how it is like sticking part A in slot A ect.

The best tip I can give is go through the manuals, check what you need from there and have everything local to you. Oh and a magnetic tipped screwdriver is a godsend.

This chap...

...has been making PC build videos for years. It looks like Newegg are now commissioning him. The only thing that I found tricky was attaching the small leads from the case (e.g. for power, reset, and LEDs to the correct points on the motherboard. It was clear in the manuals just a bit fiddly. Building the PC was fine... overclocking is something else, though.

Just noticed my case has a dedicated area for mounting a SSD away from the usual bays, would there be any reason to not do this?

It just helps with cable management, you don't have to try stretching multiple cable to the same location if you have a load of drives.

Makes no difference where you install those SSD's, except if you had say all of your main bays filled (for example 2.5"/3.5" sata drives) in your case/tower. Some cases like to put these SSD mounting areas behind the motherboard, I don't really see the point in doing that, unless you have nowhere else to install them. I just used a normal bay for my SSD.

Also here's a decent guide by PC gamer with videos on how to build a PC.

SSDs have no moving parts. You could potentially stick them anywhere that's convenient. I've seen modders use strong tape to secure them anywhere that's tidy / convenient.

I built a PC from the ground up for the first time using this:

Was really helpful.

If you ever need some PC pointers, ya boi Linus will always have your back, if you can put up with some sponsorship plugging bookends.

My windows 10 software is coming on USB stick, but I can't find a.guide to install it on a fresh system. Every guide has a bit about creating a USB boot thingy, then installing over an old version.

It should just be a case of putting the usb stick in and turning the machine on, it should pick up the stick and start the installation. If it doesnt you may need to enable boot from usb device in the BIOS but thats easily done if you do need to do it.

I was hoping that would be the case. The guides make it sound so difficult.

I should mention the only time I booted from USB it was a linux distro but it work flawlessly, I dont see why Windows would be any different.

Yeah - just set USB to first in the boot sequence in the bios.

It's super quick from USB, too.

So very first power on should have the USB already in, or should it be power on, then get to bios, select USB in the boot and then reset with USB in?

I tell you what's annoying, I've spread the parts across 4 suppliers for cost and availability reasons. 3 out of 4 have dispatched already and confirmed tomorrow and Wednesday for delivery. The one left, Amazon, which is well over a grands worth of order on its own is sitting not even preparing for dispatch, despite me forking out for expedited delivery.
