Standard Doctor Who, then?

Why can't they, you know, get good writers and directors and stuff?

You are right, the quality of the seasons (collectively) is worse and worse with each series for me since Moffat has taken over. There are fewer quality episodes (like Blink or Human Nature among many others) and more mediocre and bad ones. The best season was series 2 for me (it also had the worst Who episode ever interestingly), the best episodes are Tooth and Claw, The Girl in the Fireplace, The Impossible Planet two-parter for S2, the Human Nature-two parter and Blink for S3, Silence in the Library two-parter and Midnight for S4, Amy's Choice for S5, The Rebel Flesh two-parter and The Girl Who Waited for S6 (I should rewatch The Doctor's Wife, I have vague memories about that episode), Asylum of the Daleks for S7 and Flatline for S8.
Which episodes do you consider the best ones? Which season do you consider the best one? I am actually curious about what people would say to that :P

Series 5 all day long. When your weakest ep is Victory of the Daleks, which I do think is a bit underrated (I'm not saying its good) then that is a very good season. It's got the best finale, probably the best opening ep. Plus Vincent and the Doctor. Whilst 6 and 7 are not as good I think people are quick to forget how good some of it was. The Doctor Wife is fantastic as is The God Complex. Night Terrors is a strong one too. Cold War gets overlooked. Hide too.

Personally I'd put 3&4 above 2 as well. You've got Gridlock and whilst I know the finale goes to gooseberry fool I thought it was brilliant until it went to gooseberry fool. Even though the Dalek 2 parter is crap its not Fear Her and Love and Monsters. 42 and even The Lazarus Experiment are rather underrated to. I think the latter gets harshly done by just because the CGI monster is a bit rubbish. 4 has the Fires of Pompeii as well and Turn Left is fantastic. The Sontaran 2 parter is the best RTD era first half of series 2 part story. Partners in Crime is much better then New Earth for me. The mime scene.

Wait... weren't we going to get a Pompeii-set episode this year to help explain Capaldi? Or am I completely making that up?

Saturday's ep was disappointing. It was little more than CBBC show teaching kids about environmentalism. I do think this has easily been the strongest series since 5 however.

Deep Breath - Poor
Into the Dalek - Meh
Robot of Sherwood - Very Poor
Listen - Fantastic
Time Heist - Fantastic
The Caretaker - Good
Kill the Moon - Need to watch it again
Mummy on the Orient Express - Good
Flatline - Great
In the Forest of the Night - Poor

Not saying it's been fantastic, just the overall quality is a lot better than the last few seasons. Seven had its moments but blew the Amy and Rory departure. Six started very strongly but had far too much River bloody Song.

I didn't think it was that bad, at least not what people made it out to be. Maybe that's because I had been totally disappointed with the previous episodes by that point, heard bad reviews about that one and was ready to give up on the show altogether.

The only good episode in this whole season has been the episode Listen, everything else has been poor.

That one in Series 2 with the space flower thing that makes a girl's drawings come real or whatever the strawberry float it was about.

Bad, but not as bad as RoS.

I didn't think this last episode was all that bad, except for the part where all the trees just disappear.

There are no lasting consequences in this show, are there?

Not when the Earth or Universe are always at stake no.

They should really set a story on another planet so they can destroy it, but then that would mean writing an interesting story and characters so the viewer actually cares when they blow it up.

One of the reasons I hated that ep was that the Doctor was completely irrelevant to the outcome. Had he not appeared everything would have worked out the same.

The fact they have the museum of Gallifrey, Romana narrating the other trailer, clearly means that Missy is the physical embodiment of the Doctors real name....... John Hurt

I genuinely paused for a moment when I typed "he" thinking I didn't know for sure. Apologies. :fp: I'd say I'd make a mental note of it but in truth I'll forget in a weeks time.

I think its certainly a more enjoyable ep then Curse of the Black Spot or the Power of Three. But not as polished as say, the sillyness of Dinosaurs on a Spaceship.

Flatline is a great episode. This season's best episode so far.
