Updates or remasters? They are different, very different in fact.
I mean an update as in "updated visuals", a newer iteration, which a remaster also is. Contemporary aesthetics and changes in attitudes towards what looks good, particularly for example changes in lighting engines that eradicate prebaked effects or aren't recreated the same can spoil the look of a previous game.
Well in the world of PS4 Pro and Xbox One X's the upscaled games receive usually a resolution increase and nothing else, a few have faster frame rates (Witcher 3 is a joy to play) but remasters are made as you said by different teams. I liked Bioshock remasters but the sound issues are odd, still, Bioshock 2's visuals are jaw dropping as the details missed in original are crips and clear in remaster, again, it was as gorgeous on PC.
I watched an hour of footage of Alan Wake on PC the other day, I mean it's great on Xbox BC but good lord its gorgeous on PC. I'd love a remaster.
