So this morning a guy entered our house without permission. He come in through our back door and walked up to where my Mum sits (as you can see it from the back door) claiming that the neighbours had said that someone old and frail lived in the house (which I'm fairly certain they'd never do purely because we know all our neighbours).

My Mum said he kept pointing at the window while she was screaming at him to leave. My Mum started calling me and this guy said "James, is that your son?" and looked up to the ceiling but when she threatened to call the police he just left.

Now I want my Mum to call the police, but she's saying she doesn't want to go through the hassle and now I'm not entirely sure what to think. She won't talk to me about it and she seemed shaken up when I got downstairs but she's claiming she's perfectly fine and just got me to lock the door again.

I don't understand who or what the guy was doing here and now I'm not entirely sure what to do. :dread:

Weird. The police won't give a gooseberry fool, I wouldn't bother calling them. How did the guy get to the back door? Through the garden? Who's James? So many questions.

Call the police on the non emergency number (since he's gone now). Other people in the area might have reported something similar so the more calls they get the more chance of tracking the guy down.

He could just be a nutcase, but he may also be casing the area for easy burglaries.

I'm James and we have to leave the back door unlocked first thing in the morning since a carer comes out to help get her dressed and washed since it's something she didn't want me doing. The guy couldn't have known it was unlocked and first of all he apparently walked past it into our back garden before coming in.

Our back gate broke a few years ago in high winds and although my Dad said he'd help us fix up a new one years ago he's still never got around to it so we don't have a back gate x_x

Show him your bedroom next time, he'll never come back.

sounds scary, hope you get it sorted.
Ask your neighbours if they saw anything which also warns them.

Could you not attempt to fix up the back gate yourself, Staydead?

It's best to call the non-emergency police number. He might be a vulnerable person or a potential burglar.

Yep, tell the Police. Send them an email if you are too nervous to call them.

Also maybe get someone to fix the gate, and put a lock on it. It is amazing how safe you feel even with a shoddy locked gate. Also if she is having a hard time, get her a dog.

Okay, now I'm confused.

Anyway, speak to your neighbours and see if they really spoke to him/what he said, and yeah the non-emergency no. would be a good shout.

You can email the NZ Police, they were thinking about a Txt service awhile back as well.

It is more just to give you advice, you are not going to email them and say,

Hi there,

There is an intruder in my house. He has a knife, oh god.

Regards

Chris

Nah. Its a fault reference so it makes sense I cant see it, its more useful for the engineers etc. I used to be able to see them, so they must have removed that right from us internal guys.

I got my mum after she refused for a while to ring 101 and she explained everything to them. They're sending someone round so she can make a proper statement and probably to check on her since she got really upset on the phone. Thanks for telling me about 101, didn't know it existed.
