Live the intertwined stories of Naoe, an adept shinobi Assassin from Iga Province, and Yasuke, the powerful African samurai of historical legend. Against the backdrop of the turbulent late Sengoku period, this remarkable duo will discover their common destiny as they usher in a new era for Japan.

Discover the captivating open world of feudal Japan, from spectacular castle towns and bustling ports to peaceful shrines and pastoral landscapes. Adventure through unpredictable weather, changing seasons, and reactive environments.

As the quick-witted and agile Naoe, use noise, light, and shadows to evade detection as enemies respond to their changing surroundings. Distract guards using kunai, shuriken, and smoke bombs, infiltrate enemy bases with your grappling hook and parkour skills, and assassinate your targets with the hidden blade.

As the charismatic samurai Yasuke, strike your foes with brutal precision and power. Use his combat-oriented skills to attack, block, parry, and defeat your enemies. Master the vast arsenal of weapons at your disposal – featuring katana, kanabo, bows, naginata, and more – to free Japan from its oppressors.

Travel the world, explore, and scout your surroundings to gather vital intel. Build your network of spies to be your eyes and ears across locations to unveil new areas and hunt down your next target. Along the way, recruit several allies with highly specialized skills and abilities to help accomplish your missions.

You decide whether to play as a shinobi or samurai. Master complementary playstyles of two fully realized protagonists, approach quests with whichever character you prefer, as each possesses their own respective progression, stats, skills, and gear.

Very keen to see more of this. I like how they're treating the series lately.

If its anything like the recent trilogy then its not for me, bloating map size, ridiculous amount of 'collectibles' are not a good combo.

Also, really not a fan of AC Shadows as a name  But it's not like a lot of the games have had a good subtitle recently.

Been waiting for this one for over a decade ever since those hints they dropped in Black Flag about which memories Abstergo had gathered. Not actually played Valhalla yet, but I loved Origins and Odyssey so much. I think the open-world formula really suits them, and they have allowed much more actual stealth than the games prior to them did.

Pretty sure this is in the same vein as Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla set in Japan?

Sounds like it’s coming to PC/PS5/Xs

It would be good if they keep the length similar to Mirage.

I’m still tempted by Mirage, is it actually more like the older AC games rather than the recent trilogy, is the map still overly bloated with icons for everything as well?

Yeah, it is more like the older Assassin's Creed games.

It didn't feel overwhelming by the icons to be honest. I felt it was decent amount of icons and I enjoyed it.

30-40 hours to finish everything.

Trailer looks absolutely gorgeous (though obviously that doesn't mean much).

Being able to choose between the two characters for missions is a great idea for this. The shogun looks like a tank, but not much good for stealth. Having the two extremes makes more sense than one character who is super-strong but also nimble. (Obviously that's not a radical new game mechanic, but it's new for Assassin's Creed, other than where the previous games have dictated that you temporarily play as another character.) Should make for some good variety.

Something to be wary about, this is rumoured to be part of Assassin’s Creed Infinity, the hub to contain all games. PSN page shows an ‘always online connection required’ on the store page

Not that I played it, but didn't Syndicate have two different characters with different styles? Or were they quite similar really when it came down to it? I was under the impression that you could play the majority of the game as either of them except for some missions which were only accessible to one of them as well?

Not sold on the the trailer either to be honest, not for me.

Jacob and Evie weren't really all that different to play as (the differences were more for the story) - not like the difference between the hulking samurai and the nimble shinobi here. And I think most if not all of the missions were a fixed choice.

Ah fair enough then, I think I got about an hour or two into Syndicate when I borrowed it years ago so didn't really have many memories of the game to recall.

Genuinely hyped for this and it's the first Assassins's Creed game since Black Flaf that's tempting me back to the series and has me considering getting a PS5.

Nitpick: Yasuke isn't a Shogun, he was just a sword-bearer in service of Oda Nobunaga (who in turn wasn't Shogun either, he didn't live long enough to claim that title). At this point in history we're between Shogunates.
