I've never played a Souls game as I'm sure they're way too hard for me. I'm tempted though as they seem to hold their price quite while in case I just don't get on with it at all.

Even I played Souls 1 and so I suspect *anyone* could, Grin! You have to accept that death is part of the game; and, once you do, it offers a sense of achievement that few other games can match.

I kinda gave up at the O&S boss, though  .

Oh, we got to the same place! I'd say we should both go back and try and advance further...

You know, I was kinda thinking about returning to Souls, Hypes. It has been such a long time - maybe 18 months - since my last play that I think I'd start afresh, though; this would give me an opportunity to get back into the controls and timings.

I'm not certain about returning, though. I loved the game and it was an amazing experience... but a certain mindset is needed in order to tackle it!

Jawa seriously, dont start from scratch. If you want to get used to it again, just backtrack to previous areas and relearn there.

I dunno, Ad, I think I'd prefer to start again as I'd like to learn the stuff anew. I will have forgotten most of it! I'm cool with re-tackling the bosses again... even though it will probably take me *ages* :-D.

I would say only start again if you are actually, actively excited to replay the first half of the game. If it's just because you think you should, you'll probably get bored. Like, you already put hours into the Bell Gargoyles - will you be happy to potentially do that again or will it frustrate you?

I love replaying Dark Souls but going back to the same bosses a second time isn't for everyone.

I seem to recall you got to Anor Londo before you stopped playing? The next boss is hard, but not impossible. There is a really good bonfire for training nearby (where Solaire is - you can fight the Silver Knights over and over 'til you get back into the swing of things). You can actually summon Solaire to draw some aggro away from you in the boss fight too, so that helps.

Saying that, if you want to replay the opening, go for it. You can mix up your character a bit (though I think Knight kind of suited your play style!) and maybe take a slightly different path through the world. There's certainly plenty to replay there.

Thanks, Karl. I feel that, for me, I'd be better off re-starting as I want to get back into the feel of the game and learn the controls and timings. It can be a punishing mix and I don't think I could cope with jumping back in further along that journey. I *think* I'll be okay with facing all those earlier challenges again; if I play Souls then I shall try to have my brain in "patience" mode and attempt to not get too annoyed by defeat.

I was only really thinking in a small way about playing again but the chat with Grin and Hypes has made me consider it a little more.

Excited to hear about your playthrough either way Jawa! It's a great game and it was fun hearing about your adventures in it.

I did not wake up today thinking that a return to Dark Souls was on the cards. The twists and turns of life! :o :dread: :toot: .

Ha! That will be an issue... I don't think I could tackle too intensive games simultaneously. If I did start Souls then BotW would *probably* have to go on hold. I'll see how it goes!

There are 2 areas that I've just not set foot in after very early deadly encounters when I first started the game:

- past the graveyard where the Skeletons are hanging about; and
- down the lift from Firelink Shrine where these ghosts attack you (New Londo Ruins?)

I will go into the depths first and then once I'm totally all buff and studly I'll see what those areas have to offer - I imagine it will be endless suffering, but you never know they might be quite nice places to hang out :)

Contemplating giving this another go as I just flat out stopped playing it shortly after my last post in this thread - from what I remember I killed this massive rat in The Depths and then went wandering about and inevitably died, I think by falling down a hole that was hidden from view. At that point I fancied playing something else and the dread of returning to the game just prevented me from doing so.

The trouble I'll now face is having to re-learn how to play the game, but at least I'll know what to expect so won't be too disheartened by the predictable failure

The momentum is slowly building up, Preezy. Maybe we could both venture back into the world of Souls!

the best way to approach Souls is like the deaths are part of the experience: learn from them, try to do something different, experiement.
if you start get frustrated then just play something else, come back the next day etc.

I have stepped forth once more into the nightmare :dread:

Loaded up my save and turns out I got cursed when I last played (completely forgot that :slol: ) so spent some time grinding the Undead Burg to afford a purging stone (thanks google!) - so now that I've managed to get rid of the curse and get myself back to full health, whilst also sharpening my skills against some low-level ghouls I reckon a trip to the catacombs is on the cards :toot:

Yes! YES! Let the feeling flow through you, Preezy... it re-begins!

I'm getting my head around the idea of starting a new game; maybe on Friday. I want to be grossly incandescent once more.

More! GRcadians are rushing back into the experience, eager to seek out a place where they can praise the sun.

Don't fight it, Hypes... embrace it!

I've been tempted to return to Souls for a while now. I always intended to do some follow up runs at the game to explore some of the other possible builds, I never looked at anything on the sorcery/pyromancy/miracles side of things and would be intrigued to see how playing with those feels!

I marched down through the graveyard, dealing with the skeletons there with relative ease (such a difference from the first time I faced them!) and headed into the Catacombs. It was very dark and I nearly fell into the abyss but was warded off by these purpley floating skulls - have I loaded up Doom by mistake? I thought, no! The skulls promptly exploded sending me to my doom. Best to avoid them, I guess.

Reborn, I ventured back into the Catacombs, more carefully this time, drawing out the skulls and letting them harmlessly detonate away from me, but the skeletons were again bothersome. It seemed that they kept regenerating over and over despite tasting the bitter sting of my steel more than enough times to keep them down. Is something in the darkness keeping them "alive", some sort of Arch-vile... am I sure I'm not playing Doom?

I gave up on the Catacombs and instead headed back to the Depths where I promptly fell down the same hole that ended my last playthrough  .... but this time I survived! :toot: Killed a bunch of frog-looking creatures that were busy burping out onion breath, not much challenge there.

Had a little explore without venturing too deeply and will be heading back there this evening, brimming with hubris :datass:

All three have fun stuff in! I think a lightweight "Pyromancy + Dex weapon" load-out is a fun build if you played through as a standard shield and sword guy the first time.

The frog breath is really dangerous! But it sounds like you smashed them. Get rekt frogs. :datass:

Looking forward to hearing what you think of the next boss, it's a memorable one!

Yeah I've watched a few snippets of people playing through various Pyro builds and it looks like a fun thing to play about with!
