I'm pretty sure the SGB had real Gameboy hardware inside the cart, which is why it was massive.

SGB was more or less a GB in cartridge form so it's not emulation.

That said there are a couple of issues with it. The timing crystal on the SNES is slightly different from the GB, meaning that GB games actually run a few % faster than they do on the actual handheld. The Super GameBoy 2, which was only released in Japan fixed this and also added a game link port to allow connection to actual GB's or another SGB2.

SGB2s tend to go for about £60+ though and for most purposes the original is fine.

As far as I know the SGB will work on the Retro Trio, as will Everdrive carts, but I'm not 100% on the last part.

Grabbed a boxed complete SuperGameboy for £15 , I wonder if it will work on my Retro Trio + console as my SNES is currently put away.

Depends if the Super Gameboy used hardware or software to run GB games.

I looked it up and apparently it does work, I guess I will have to wait and see how well it works, I always imagined with the large cart there was some Gameboy hardware in the SuperGameboy but I'm not really sure.

In this case software emulation would require more computing power than the console itself and so it was cheaper to just literally put a gameboy in there I'd imagine.

Grabbed a few original xbox games complete yesterday for 50p each Men of Valor, brothers in arms road to hill 30 and Tom clancy's ghost recon advanced warfighter

Nothing earth shattering but it's nice to grab cheap stuff.p

I thought people might appreciate knowing I strike out sometimes, went on a charity shop hunt today and couldn't find a single game worth a monkeys it was all fifa and scratched up rubbish. I grabbed a few DVD's to watch like a Billy Connolly concert and the film planet terror for 50p and had a nice coffee but I'd rather have got a game lol

Q. Has anyone put a GDEMU in to a Dreamcast? If so how was it? Been ripping CDs but looking at how cheap the cloned GDEMUs are now it feels like the next logical step.

On a related note does anyone else love the Brook adapters for different controller options? Bought the one for the Dreamcast and basically you can use any PS/Xbox/Switch controller on the Dreamcast and it has a built in VMU. Using my 360 Madcatz fightstick on the DC has made me love the fighting games on that console even more.

If you have several Nintendo systems the RAD2X cables from https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/ are a good place to start. The Nintendo one is compatible with anything that has the old Multi-AV connector and takes the best signal it can from each system (Which is RGB in all but one case), line doubles it to 480p and outputs through Mini-HDMI. So SNES, N64, GC and the AV famicom can all be easily played on modern TVs at their best picture quality with one cable. Only downside is that N64 doesn't output in RGB (Unless modded), so you only get composite from it. It's a great value prospect as it costs the same as the other RAD2X cables, but works on 4 different systems. There are other RAD2X cables for other systems, but they generally support fewer systems each.

Only issue I'm having is the Rad2x doesn't seem to like HDMI splitters and gives blue/green horizontal lines on screen when run through one - whjen plugged directly in to console/monitor it doesn't mind. Yet o swap in my GC or SNES.

My RAD2X is great but I would be lying if I said it had been totally issue free.

First was that my old Elgato HD60 wouldn't accept the signal when it was connected to the Super Famicom. The RAD2X is built on Retrotink tech and apparently some versions of that didn't get on well with that particular Elgato model. Luckily I have other ways to capture it now so it's not an issue.

Second was again with the Super Famicom. On games where the screen would occasionally go totally white (E.g warping between Light and Dark world in ALTTP), it would glitch out and go weird momentarily. Thought it might be the Super Famicom actually, but when I use it through an actual RGB cable it works fine.

That's the only issues I've ever really had with it and I still recommend getting it as a starting point.

Personally mines is connected through a 7 port HDMI switch, which then gets split between the TV and my capture device and it works fine. The HDMI switch takes external power so that might help it.

Never put any kind of ODE into a machine (yet) but I'm definitely considering it over the next year or so. I've got two Dreamcast's so I've no issue modding one with a GDemu at some point. I want one for my Saturn as well, but the downside is that by their very nature you lose access to the disc drive and Saturns aren't too cheap anymore so I'm loathe to do anything that removes functionality like that without a backup system. With that in mind I'd probably consider the Satiator add-on that's recently released which slots into the MPEG Card slot in the back and leaves the system otherwise untouched.

A Terraonion MODE might be a good shout for my PS at some point too.

Yeah my HDMI splitter is powered and had lines - then tried it with a passive switch and even when nothing else is plugged in it has horizontal lines. Again for now a single cable switch isn't a real problem and it might be linked to my monitor + RAD2x rather then the cable itself. Again, for the price point the fact it works for three consoles I own is pretty sweet.

I agree with you for an ODE replacement. I ordered a GDEMU yesterday and I'm gonna give it a go with my current Dreamcast as I'm only playing backups anyway. If it all goes Pete Tong then a local shop has Dreamcasts in for reasonable money.

Yeah Saturn stuff can be quite expensive these days. I got mine in 2000 with about 12 loose disc games for £60. I picked up a few more boxed games in the year or two that followed, including a CIB PAL copy of Burning Rangers for £5 which is probably the single rarest game I own as well as the single biggest increase in value of anything.

Got two games for my Megadrive Quackshot boxed complete (Pal) for 13quid and Alien Storm boxed complete Japanese for 15quid.

I love my Japanese Games and remember having Alien Storm like this as a Kid so I am really really happy to have it again from this region in good condition

Got my Saturn back from getting it's switchless 50/60HZ mod today.

Not had a chance to really try it out yet but a quick check confirms I can now play full screen, full speed NTSC US and Japanese games through my PAL system.

Gonna be streaming some more Saturn stuff over the next few weeks/months so keep an eye out.

I do love a lot of the Japanese box art, I want to get a decent size collection of Japanese Megadrive games. I had about 40 as a kid and they were stolen so im trying to kind of replace them (im not trying to get all the same games as I dont remember exactly which ones I had), I have like Gain Ground, Eswat, Ghost Busters, streets of rage 2, Arrow flash, Thunder Pro Wrestling Retsuden, Golden Axe, DJ Boy, Crackdown and then a few puzzle games and sports games and stuff but I really want to be able to line like 40 up in a row.

I remember having a really big metal square biscuit tin which id put like 40 Japanese carts in, I suppose I need to get a big biscuit tin to fully relive my youth lol

Dang, kerr, that looks so good. The Japanese version of Alien Storm was the first game I bought for my Mega Drive... it was terrific. Alas, I foolishly sold my MD and all my Japanese games (not tons, but maybe around seven) back in the day. Always regretted it . Great memories of using it, though! Enjoy the game, dude!
