"Equally poor"? Come on Jawa. Not everything has to be some "both sides" nonsense.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

If we're going to call out scam artists can we please not use naughty words while you do it.

I really don't understand this, it looks crap, is massively overpriced (assuming it's ever released) and sounds like it's just a scam. Why is anybody defending it?

There's a horrible undercurrent to the way they've seemingly got people doing their PR for free, and who are now at war with each other of a console that doesn't exist.

Slope’s Game Room did an interesting video where he explains where his interest for the machine comes from as a parent.

I guess that market might exist but I don’t think this was ever going to be the product to tap into it.

Partly. Intellivision's funding has come from a mixture of private investment, German government grant (for Amico game development by German software companies) and public funding; for the latter the most recent one is currently being carried out via startengine and has so far raised funding of circa $58k against a target of $5m... so, yeah, it certainly hasn't been as successful as the previous ones.

I witnessed the interactions on the Atari Age forum for many months and it was a factor in me pausing the use of my @totalamico Twitter account. And, yes, the toxicity and ill-will came - IMHO - from "both sides".

Just to pick up on the "scam" aspect, Moggy, I don't feel that it is one - at least not from a customer perspective. In the US anyone who placed down the required $100 to pre-order a console has been able to request a full refund of that money at any point so far; and in other countries where the console has been made available for pre-order, all customers have - to the best of my knowledge - been free to cancel at any time without financial loss. I did so myself!

Of course, things could be different from an investment perspective but I think that anyone doing so will have been aware of the risks; this is a relatively small company attempting to launch a new console and I'd imagine the risks are pretty high. SmashJT, an investor who runs a YouTube channel and is now choosing to back away from the system, invested $10k.

This is an interesting point. I have watched a number of YouTubers both for and against the Amico and the scene got really heated with very strong opinions; in my opinion, this fighting grew to such an extent that it created a toxic environment around the console. Some folk were (are) very pro-Amico and I think this attitude hardened as they grew to have a "seige mentality"; some were perhaps a little over-protective but, having seen some of the anti-Amico vids, I can understand why... even if I don't agree with it.

It is quite sad now as emotions have run high, there is pressure and some people are falling out.

Crikey, just caught up with the last 15 pages of this thread and don't think I seen such dogpiling since that Battersea Fire in 79.

My own take of the Amico, is they have strawberry floated it, and that's a real shame.

The intellivsion was one of my first ever consoles, and if this had been released as one of those modern retro Consoles, with 15 games preloaded at a price of about £70-£80, I would be all over this. But as it currently stands it's dead on arrival. I have great memories of Tron, Moto GP, and Tanks with my brothers and my dad! So wish we had kept hold of this console, but after multiple failed attempts at DOS Gaming my dad lost his rag and bought an Amiga 500. The rest was history.

It seems that Intellivision may be in quite a severe financial situation, with their latest fundraiser on the startengine platform being halted and rumours that their existing funding may be close to expiring.

It's sad to see the story potentially ending this way. Regardless of whether we think the Amico was a good or bad console, it would have been nice to at least see it launch so that people could properly assess the console and the games. At this point, it feels like the only way for this to be achieved would be if a larger company purchases Intellivision or if someone puts up significant additional funding... and neither seems to be likely right now.

I shall keep the memories of the initial excitement and enthusiasm for the Amico in my heart. Alas, it now appears that the dream will not develop further!

Truly the Godfather of classic huddled-around-the-TV gaming. I'm anticipating at least one "termination". Big Boss Tallarico has a ring to it (I'm sorry if this is sort of racist, presumably that's Italian, but that's the joke).

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

F

Hopefully jawa if the console never sees a release the games might still get ported elsewhere so you get to try them out.

Apart from Earthworm Jim, that's obviously never happening

This operation was run like a circa 2011 Kickstarter scam so it's not a surprise to see it end in much the same way.
