Microsoft acquire ZeniMax Media. Sounds like everything will be exclusive to Game Pass platforms.

Anything to do with games at all.

Where are you playing exclusive Bethesda games in the future?

Microsoft wants future Bethesda games to be ‘first or best’ on Xbox, says CFO

Plus exec says it’s not planning to pull all Bethesda content from rival platforms

Dang, man, I'm so unsure about the deal. It is going to influence my next console choice as I just wouldn't want to miss out on, say, Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6 or Fallout 5. I should be okay with continuing to play Fallout 76 on my PS4 but, even then, I suspect that Bethesda's priority will gradually switch to Xbox.

So any releases that are on Xbox first, will be better when released on PlayStation. Noted.

“What we’ll do in the long run is we don’t have intentions of just pulling all of Bethesda content out of Sony or Nintendo or otherwise,”

So if it makes sense for, say Elder Scrolls 6 to release on PS5 they’ll be releasing it on PS5? I’m not exactly surprised, Xbox gets the best looking version, maybe a few months of exclusivity before it releases elsewhere kind of thing.

Still the usual vague answers from earlier in the same interview, have to wait until the games are announced after the sale completes -

And we said this as part of the announcement. When we think about Bethesda, it's going to be the continuing to allow -- I'll say allow, but continue to sell their games on the platforms that they exist today, and we'll determine what that looks over time and will change over time. I'm not making any announcements about exclusivity or something like that. But that model will change.

They probably don't know for sure what they want to do with future releases yet and it will likely vary game for game

The only thing I think it is fair to say for sure is it won't be a traditional multiplat approach of all games releasing on everything at the same. Anything else from timed exclusivity to zero support on PS is possible id say.

The only way it seems to make any sense for Microsoft financially is to put them on Gamepass but still release elsewhere full price. Extremely high value add for their service without giving up literal billions in sales

Forgive the self-promotion but there are a few good reasons that some of the coverage of the buyout overlooked.

The buyout isn't actually complete at this point so there's probably a lot of restrictions on what they even can say now. Once it's all signed and sealed we might get a bit of a better understanding of what the reality of an MS owned Zenimax might look like.

I think they could release it like a year later as anyone who would have bought an xbox to play TES would have done so by then.

The wording is vague, but... man, I can't imagine that Bethesda's stuff will arrive on non-Microsoft platforms for too long; or, if they do, quite a while later than on MS formats. Tbh, I was leaning towards PS5 but I want to play Bethesda's games.

It's all going to be vague until the acquisition is done in the next few months.

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - EU antitrust regulators will decide by March 5 whether to clear Microsoft’s $7.5 billion acquisition of ZeniMax Media, the U.S. tech giant’s biggest gaming acquisition to better compete with Sony Corp’s PlayStation.

Microsoft requested European Commission approval for the deal on Jan. 29, a filing on the EU executive’s website showed.

The EU competition enforcer can clear the deal with or without concessions during its preliminary review or it can open a full-scale investigation if it has serious concerns.

ZeniMax, parent company of Bethesda Softworks, has developed hits including Fallout and Doom. The gaming industry has soared, boosted by demand from users stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Seems like the deal has gone through. Probably an announcement next week.

I'm both excited and a little unsure about this takeover.

+ I like a lot of Bethesda/Zenimax's output
+ Maybe MS will provide finance/structure to help correct/avoid buggy game releases
- Will MS streamline/end any existing game development?
- Will MS gradually move all future developments to become Xbox exclusives?

I just hope they can put a little extra money into developing the Elder Scrolls.
If it can fully utilise the XSX it should look pretty darn swanky.
