WHAT IS NINTENDO SWITCH?
At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment.

Gaming springs into action by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options. They can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch systems together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

Developers can design their games supporting a variety of play styles, which gives gamers the freedom to choose an experience that best suits them.

A happy seventh birthday to the Switch! What new experiences will await in this eighth year of play? And will the successor appear during this year?

Nice work, Rula - it's great to see that the Switch is still a fantastic gaming system seven years later... and that we're still chatting about it :-). I like the refreshed thread picture panel, too!

I want to try and get back into Switch gaming as I've neglected it these past few years. I always like the big-screen experience of PlayStation but there's a lot to be said for kicking back and enjoying some handheld action on Switch.

If I'd have remembered it, the placement would have been where Megaman is. I think that would have looked a bit better than a circle with characters inside. As it stands, it's a game that recently released which I have no investment in.

Thanks, jawa. Indeed. Seven years is a long time. Longest time yet a console has lasted, I think.

Hope you can get back to the Switch this year.

Thank you for the new thread Rula :D . No mention of Mickey Illusion Island :(

jawa_ wrote:And... Switch is now 7!

It certainly doesn't feel like seven years to me; man, that time has flown by.

Doesn't feel like seven year because you thought it was eight? ;)

I did too actually, LOL. But in that spirit - as it has only been seven years - even happier for us to get the Switch 2 in 2025.

I do wonder if the rumour that they were planning a new Switch this year but it's been delayed to 2025, might be a little bit of a quiet year for the current Switch.

I'm ok with that. 2023 was a great year I played 5 new [i.e. released in 2023] games - quantity wise I'm nearly there Mario vs DK, Peach, Paper Mario and Luigi Mansion are all day ones for me. If Switch 2 was planned this year and is to be delayed - interested to see what they do this year with the current Switch

What are you going to call the 9th one when the Switch 2 still hasn't been released or even announced by this time next year? :shifty:

7 fantastic years  I’ve not played my Switch as much since getting my Steam Deck but it’s still my favourite Nintendo console and reignited my love of handheld gaming.

In terms of this year, I think it’s going to be a slow one for Switch owners. I think we’ll see some ports and HD Remasters from Ninty to bulk out the schedule while the main new stuff from will be saved until Switch 2 next year. Same with 3rd parties, I don’t you’ll see much in the way of big releases like we have done. Indies should hopefully still keep the system ticking over between Nintendo releases.

All the links I found relating to Switch games across the first six pages of the Games section have now been added to the OP. This year, I'll try to keep better track of various releases and threads that get made for them.

That's a tricky one. Though I do have a year to come up with a suitable pun. Likely won't reference the wait for the Switch successor, but we'll see.

As always on this day, my latest Nintendo Switch article has been published, looking back at the games I've played across the seventh year. There's only half of the games I've bought in the year featured. This has been a big year of purchasing for me, and fitting them all in would provide too long of an article, I feel.

I do feel this is going to be a particularly poor year for Switch gamers, even if they announce quite a few games in the second half, most of them are probably going to be ports, might get a couple of new games, one being Metroid Prime 4 if thats ready. The one year they could have done with the annual Pokemon release as well and the line up is completely devoid of Pokemon

Tbh, I'm happy as things are. The Switch has a great catalogue of titles, a lovely screen and I'm still enjoying the TV/handheld option. I'm not desperate to start paying seventy quid for games on a new system. Long live Switch!
