Lego Rock Band DS
Very enjoyable portable spin on the Rock Band series without all the plastic tat the series is known for. A decent tracklist and addicting gameplay, I like how you switch between instruments to keep your multiplyer going.
7.5/10

I hope we get a new Rock Band game on Switch, with gameplay similar to this without the need of plastic instruments.

Mafia

6/10

It's still a brilliant paced and well told story but the game itself is very mediocre. It's a very faithful remake of the original. So faithful, in fact, that it even has a lot of the same flaws. The original will always have a special place in my heart and it's the version of the game that I'll think of first whenever Mafia is mentioned.

Wish I hadn't made the impulse purchase as I don't think it's worth much more than a tenner.

Saying that though, I still really enjoyed it. It's just that it feels like a budget game and I paid £35 which has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Recently i revisited smackdown here come the pain and i would give that 9/10 because the story line and the gameplay is still very engaging and more better than wwe 2k20 :fp:

Super Mario 64 - 9/10

Still an utter joy to play, and the levels (for better or worse in a few cases) focus entirely on platforming to navigate, which is missing from the later 3D games I feel. Mario 64 is not about exploring, but navigating the environment in a fun way. Later games have very clear 'this is an explore bit, this is a platform bit' wheras 64 has you jumping all over the shop. If the camera wasn't gooseberry fool in places, it'd still be a 10/10.

I'm starting to think i will never be good enough to actually clear one run, let alone see the credits. It is a fantastic game though, i love doing one or two runs each evening after work.

Turn on God mode. It basically adds 1% damage reduction everytime you die. So after 50 runs you'll still only be taking half damage. It makes the game a lot more manageable and enjoyable. Combat is still tense and the new game plus additions make the game stunningly difficult.

Interesting. I’m going to stick with it for now as I’m still really enjoying it, but it’s good to know I have that option to fall back on.
I made it to Hades on my 27th run, but have not been able to beat Thesius and the Minotaur the last 5 runs.

Driver Renegade 3D 4/10
Whilst a nice looking game and some decent driving action, it's just so darn repetative and mainline single player mode is so short. The story is rubbish and voice acting is awful, I'm glad I never brought it for full price.

Ryse: Son of Rome (1X)

Amazingly pretty for a 7 year old game, and really well voice acted and good cinematography. The gameplay however, is pretty dredfull, with very repetitive combat, boring QTE's and a leveling system that is really not worth sinking time and effort in to. Fun enough to play for the 6 or so hours required to complete it, but i was very hapy to see the credits roll.

Its far too easy on the dificulty setting i picked as well (there are 4, so good luck working out which one would be equiviant to "standard"). I picked the second difficulty and died once during the whole game. Annoyingly i could not change the difficulty on the fly either. Perhaps it was for the best.

Mad Max

7/10

Very competent game but ultimately uninspiring. Very repetitive but the rinse and repeat nature of looting camps and upgrading my car was just the kind of thing I needed to get through a pretty stressful and anxiety ridden week.

Never felt that it quite peaked though. Some of the action was amazing but I always wanted it to go that one step further. Prime example was a side quest to collect a truck with a huge sound system mounted on the back. I was expecting an epic thrill ride, being chased by gangs while awesome music boomed out of the TV but instead it was just a simple drive from A to B, no music.

I will forever associate this game with Jawa. And I will always feel like I have let him down by dropping it after about 3 hours. Sorry Jawa :shifty:

But, yeah, I can see why nearly everyone would probably say it's a 7/10. For me it's a 9 and one of my faves of this generation :-).

It's the best 7/10 game I've played in a while.

... :datass: .

Tbh I think nearly everywhere rated it 7/10 and I do see why. I just particularly loved the environments and the large gameworld. The gameplay is repetitive but it just clicked with me; I visited every location and collected every item.

I wasn't so keen on the car race sections but, thankfully, they're mainly optional in terms of progressing the storyline.

Sorry Jawa. Though I kinda like having games that I love that everyone else thought to be.... average. Binary Domain is one of mine. More recently I would say the Battletoads reboot.

Definitely! Everyone has their own tastes and games that we may really like, others can feel the opposite. Binary Domain... I recall a GRcadian (besides yourself, kaz) really liking that... Buffalo, I think?

It's a pretty nice position to be in, really, kaz. More than one person means that, rather than just being special, you could be considered as being part of a cult :datass: .
