So people voting yes, what do they think the currency plan is? I don't know whether people voting yes believe there will be a currency union, or whether they think it will be an informal union?

To me, either way seems a very uncertain gamble. Best case scenario in my opinion is that Scotland would stay roughly on a par with how it is now. I can't see there being any major improvements in Scotland under currency union, formally or not.

A federal UK would be better all round I think.

On the other hand, I suspect that Northern England might do quite well out of an independent Scotland. Which would be nice.

With regard to currency, anyone who thinks you can have an independent country without its own central bank is delusional. Think about Greece before you vote Scotland.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

This is a great article as to why Scotland would be financially pumped, from some of the top economists in the top unis.

The record could have also have included something from Joseph Stiglitz, but it doesn't suit their agenda. So I've provided it for you

I was really confused before I clicked your link as I couldn't work out what the character from Inglourious Basterds had to do with Scottish independence.

I hope they stay with us, but if they do split I kinda hope everybody else - even in England - fancies breaking away from those daft suits in the capital and makes their own little republics.

I consider myself British, English, and a Yorkshireman. If Scotland decide to go it alone then all power to them, but I wouldn't want Yorkshire to detach from the rest of England anytime.

I think big Josephs had too many whiskeys, another one presuming we will walk into the EU instantly.

Why would the Record include his opinion in an article with nothing to do with him?

Yet the majority of well regarded economists and financiers believe independence will lead to a negative economic upheaval, at least in the short term. I struggle to believe that people don't see the economic problems Scotland will have in the short term, and this is from someone who is still contemplating voting yes.

The huge deficit the Nhs will be forced to run at (unless significant spending cuts take place elsewhere) is also a major worry. Particularly considering it already receives large funding amounts which apparently are being inefficiently managed at a local level.

I would enjoy having all the political power centred in Scotland but realistically we're still going to have to deal with politicians, none of whom will please everyone - or even a majority of people, based on pretty much every democracy everywhere. To think that we will all be united once the dust has settled, as some people seem to think, is deluded in there extreme.

So what are everyone's predictions for the result?

I predict (based on a belief that my pro-Union opinion is the smarter option and that the silent majority will see this) that the opinion polls are hopelessly wrong and that the result will be somewhere around 65% NO, 35% YES.

I think that many people have been intimidated by the Yes campaign's aggression and are keeping quiet in fear of being labelled 'unpatriotic'. I think that the polls are wrong because of the above, and because of the fact that the usual methods of trying to ensure correct sampling aren't in play because polling organisations can't use lessons from any past referendums (because there haven't been any, unlike when they poll for general elections and have plenty of past info) in figuring out how to gather the data accurately.

Anyway, I just wanted to lay my theory out so that you can all laugh at me when Yes win on Friday morning.

I think common sense will win out and the final vote will be No, though I don't think it's going to be by much of a majority.

Jesus christ, can you do us all a favour and just stick to being the butt of the forum's author jokes. If you're going to act like your opinion is at all worth projecting, at least try to hide your natural biases.

It's going to be worryingly close.

Whatever happens I won't be getting a lot of work done on Friday.

I don't think the government are above fiddling a few things if it's an incredibly close vote.

The opinion polls would have us believe it's about 50-50. While I have no idea what the result will be, I think there might be an upset in that regard. Still hoping hard for rain on Thursday.

I think no will win out by some stupidly low margin.

It'll be interesting to see what voter turnout is like

Let's see who get my the closest to the actual result. My prediction:

53% No

Yeah, people are "intimidated" into saying yes in anonymous polls. Seriously, I appreciate your conviction in your own beliefs but one should not be so blind as to render oneself unable to reconcile that with reality.
