Ah! I'd wondered if, Ocarina owl-like, it was a means of travel :-D.

Sounds like a decent idea. It's interesting how little hand-holding the game does; I just stumbled across the fact that I could try swinging metal objects at enemies (using that lifting power that I've forgotten the name of) rather than using my (quickly damaged) weapons. I pushed a few rocks and rolled some bombs at enemies rather than getting too close to them, too :-).

Yeah the scope for how you can handle encounters is wonderful as you begin to explore the different mechanics and how they interact with one another

Don't worry about breaking your weapons jawa, just think of it like using ammo in a shooter. You don't worry about it because you're always picking up more from enemies, but you might want to hold onto a particularly good weapon for a harder fight. Enjoy the variety early on because mid-to-late game you'll be drowning in a thousand copies of the same royal weapons and wish they were breaking quicker!

Hee! Yeah, I guess it's just getting used to that way of thinking; busted weaponary feels bad but that's the circle of life in this :-) .

Also as above the more you experiment the more you discover inventive ways to tackle enemies that involve far less direct weapons action anyway! :toot:

I recommend the chicken-shit approach. I bombed loads of camps from above and watched them burn.

It’s so weird in BotW that bombs, which always seemed to run out quickly in the other titles, are your least disposable and most infinite weapon!

Carpet bombing mobs from the air is always a fun technique

This was my approach, see a camp, find an uphill spot, roll bombs in, booom

Ph and get good at cutting the rope holding up the lantern in skull caves with an arrow :D

Bombs do so little damage though

Stasis is the best combat power

Post upgrade that's undeniably true, but it might be a while into the game that you discover that

There were times when I spent forever sitting out of reach, bombing mobs slowly, picking away their life, rather than get embroiled in combat. Usually when I was running low on weapons. I just loved the way the game gave you that flexibility.

I've done the same (better than dying right?) but it's easily the slowest and most boring approach! I don't particularly like hero mode, but I do like how the regen health counters that tactic.

I forgot that it wasn't like that from the start!

I've done three of the first four shrines and I think I now need to cook a warm meal so that I can venture into the cold mountain area. I'm still not overly taken by weapons breaking so often but the sense of exploration is ace.

Oh, and I had (as below) this weird incident where a large bird flew near to me. Could I have hitched a ride or done anything else? It was a bit odd as it was circling and flew into the rocks near to me.

All you need to do is pick and cook or just eat some chilli things you can find to get to the colder area, then there is a coat in a cabin to find which makes the area traversible without "warm" meals :)

Thanks, Gecko, yeah, I recall cooking in my previous play but I have yet to do so this time around; I need to work out the recipe and then I will give it a go. That coat sounds super-handy :-O .

I was meant to be looking for that warm coat but I ended up wandering around and taking in the scenery.

I hope to make the journey off the Plateau fairly soon, Heskimo! Just gotta locate the dang warm coat first!

I'm only teasing!

You'll find it! There's other options too - cooking a warming meal, carrying a hot weapon or even lighting a torch and just going for it! (That's definitely a tough one though!)
